A/N: I just wanted to hop on here and say thank you for all the support on the first chapter. I typically update on Monday and Thursday. When I actually finish the story, I'll update every single day. Thank you for reading!
Brianna should have been used to the stares by now as she walked inside the SHIELD building. It seemed everyone was interested in the Avenger. It had only worsened after the reversal of the snap. She knew they meant well and that they were simply curious about her, but at times she felt like a walking piece of something that belonged in a museum. She just wanted to be treated normally.
The stares weren't even the worst part. It was the questions. She tried to be an open book, but every time someone asked her where Steve was or why they weren't together anymore, she wanted to flee from the room. It was an everyday occasion. People that she didn't even know would randomly come up to her and start asking questions about her relationship with him. She would try to be polite, but on the inside, she was screaming.
One of Brianna's favorite part of her job was the fact that she got a desk. It sounded childish, but she absolutely loved having her own desk. She had decorated it perfectly since she usually spent more time there than at her apartment. She started her usual routine of turning her computer on, reading emails, and organizing files on her desk that had been dropped off.
"Good morning, Brianna." The agent who sat across from her, Carter, told her.
She gave him a small smile. "Good morning."
He slid an orange package in front of her. "This came from you. It's from Pepper Potts."
Pepper? She tried her best to think of why Pepper of all people would send her something as tore open the package. Laying on top was a sticky note: I thought you might want this. -Pepper. She moved the note to side and felt her heart stop when she saw what laid under the note. It was one of Steve's sketchbooks. She would have recognized it anywhere. The cover was covered in ash and partially burned from surviving the explosions months ago.
She debated even opening it. She ran her finger along the thick pages, feeling how brittle they were. She lifted the cover and the first drawing she came to was one of the cafes they used to go to all the time. She felt tears prickling in her eyes and she slammed the book shut.
"Damnit." She hissed.
Every time she thought she was over Steve, a little reminder of him would appear. His face on a TV screen as she flipped through channels. His name would be said in a random conversation. She was thankful most of the things got destroyed during the explosion. She gripped the sketch pad tightly in her hand and threw it in the bin under her desk.
Carter looked at her with wide eyes. "You okay?"
"I'm fine." She said through gritted teeth.
"You don't seem fine to me." He told her.
She ignored his words and attempted not to roll her eyes at him. She looked up at the second floor of the building where Fury's office was and debated on asking to see him. She still had not made her mind up fully on whether or not to help Sam. However, if her boss said no then there was no point in pondering it any longer. So, she stood up from her desk and ascended the stairs to his floor.
She tapped the door lightly, before sticking her head inside. "You have a minute, Fury?"
"Depending on if you're going to waste my time or not." He said.
She walked into the room hiding a smile and sat down at one of the chairs. "So, Sam Wilson has a request for me, but I told him I needed to run it by you."
