guess who finally decided to update after nearly a whole monthYoohyeon's first reaction when her phone rang in the morning was to groan in displeasure at the fact that she was rudely awoken from her sleep. She cursed at whoever decided to call her this early and slammed her pillow over her head, waiting for it to stop. But the phone obviously didn't understand, as it continued ringing until she felt like her eardrums were going to explode. So she had no choice but to roll over on her back to retrieve her phone, which would have slid off the edge of her nightstand if it continued on vibrating. Grabbing it, she answered the phone and put it on speaker mode.
'Hello?' She mumbled in a sleepy voice, which was also huskier than usual since she was still thirsty as hell.
'Good morning, Yoohyeon!'
Yoohyeon's eyes widened as she jerked herself into a sitting position. 'Oh h-hey Minji.' She responded sheepishly, cringing when her voice cracked.
'Sorry, did I wake you up?' Minji asked cheerfully. 'You sound sleepy.'
'Yeah... you kinda did. But it's fine,' she added. It was true. If it had been someone else, she would have told them to kindly fuck off and leave her alone, but she didn't mind talking to Minji. The older girl made her feel safe. Valued.
'Right, so I actually called to check in on you. You left kinda abruptly yesterday night so I wanted to make sure you were okay.' The way Minji said these words made Yoohyeon feel warm in the inside. No one had ever said anything of the sort to her before. Unless-
She stopped herself from overthinking any further. She wanted to trust Minji. If Minji was willing to make an effort, then so should she. 'Thanks, I'm fine.'
'That's good. So, what are you doing right now?'
'Nothing... just lying in bed and talking to you I guess.' Yoohyeon coughed, trying to get rid of her morning voice.
'Do you have any plans for today?'
'No, I don't think so... Why?'
'I'm just wondering... since today is my day off, wanna hang out? I can pick you up in my car and we can go somewhere together. Ooh, what about a picnic? I know some really good places.' Minji always sounded so positive and excited about everything. 'That is, only if you want to, of course.'
Yoohyeon thought for a moment before answering, 'Sure. That sounds nice.'
'Great! What time works for you?'
'I still have to eat breakfast, so maybe around 10?'
'Sure. Where do I pick you up?'
'I'll meet you at the cafe. Is there anything I need to bring?'
Minji laughed. 'No, just bring yourself. That's more than enough.'
'Alright.'
'Okay, see you later then!' Minji hung up.
With great difficulty, Yoohyeon hauled herself out of bed, got changed into a decent outfit and made her way downstairs. Nearly tripping on the bottom rung, she heard a loud laugh and looked up to see Bora standing in front of her.
'And the tree finally makes its appearance! Why didn't you tell me you had a girlfriend?'
'What?'
'The girl you were talking to on the phone earlier. Isn't she your girlfriend?' Bora clarified, one eyebrow raised.
'Wha- Bora, were you spying on me?' She could feel the anger burning inside of her. Her sister just looked at her innocently.
'You put the call on speaker mode. I heard everything.' Bora shrugged, and Yoohyeon resisted the urge to slap her.
'Minji's not my girlfriend. I literally just met her yesterday.' She tried to explain, but she could tell that Bora wasn't convinced.
'Then why are you all dressed up for her? Don't tell me you're not trying to impress-'
'We're just friends!' To make her point, Yoohyeon motioned down to her usual outfit style - hoodie and shorts - and tried to stay calm. 'And I dress like this every day.'
'Yeah, and you combed your hair. Which is something you never do.'
'Only because we're going on a picnic, and I know better than to go out in public looking like someone who hasn't seen a comb in years.'
'Oh yeah, your little date with Miss Minji later,' Bora cooed. 'How cute.'
Yoohyeon decided to ignore her and sat down at the kitchen table. The two siblings awkwardly ate breakfast, barely making eye contact with each other, until finally Yoohyeon decided to break the silence. 'Where's Siyeon?'
'She had some work to do at the company, so she left early this morning.' Bora stood up and stretched her arms. 'Well, I'm going to go visit her later, so I better get ready.'
'Oh.' Was all she could say as Bora waltzed out of the kitchen, leaving Yoohyeon alone with her thoughts.
