'Come on guys, hold her down! She's not getting away with this.'

'Aww, don't cry Yoohyeonie. That's what you get for being a bad friend.'

'It's what you deserve.'

She jolted awake, her body still shaking uncontrollably from the nightmare that almost felt too real. It's just a dream, she reassured herself as she slowly sat up. I was just dreaming.

Yoohyeon never told anyone about the nightmares. How she would wake up every morning gasping for air, unable to stop the haunting memories from replaying in her head.

Stop it, Kim Yoohyeon. She's not here. She can't hurt you.

Shutting out any negative thoughts, she untwisted herself from her blankets and reached for her phone.

Minji
You still haven't told me where you wanted to go :(
Yoohyeonnnn
Rise and shine, puppy!!!

'Puppy'. Yoohyeon involuntarily smiled at the nickname Minji had just given her. She usually didn't like these kinds of pet names, as they reminded her of Minsoo's sugarcoated voice.

However, she liked it coming from Minji.

Yoohyeon
Good morning :)

Minji
Hiii!! I just woke up as well
Hold onn

Seconds later, Yoohyeon's phone rang with an incoming call.

'Good morning, Yoohyeon!' As usual, Minji's voice was brighter than the sun itself.

'Good morning, Minji.'

'Are you feeling okay? You sound tired.'

Yoohyeon was about to point out that Minji was the one who sounded unusually cheery for someone who had just woken up, but again, she was Minji.

'Anyways, I know something that would cheer you up!' Minji paused for suspense. 'Cookies!'

'Cookies?'

'I have the perfect ingredients for chocolate chip cookies!' Yoohyeon could almost hear the smile on Minji's face. 'If you come over, we can bake them together!'

'Yeah, sure.' Yoohyeon noticed how comfortable she felt while talking to Minji compared to other people. Usually she felt anxious whenever her classmates called, but with Minji, she felt at ease. 'Now?'

'Whenever you're free! I'll prepare the ingredients first.'  Minji said her goodbyes and hung up.

By the time Yoohyeon was ready to leave the house, two new alerts had popped up on her phone screen:

Minsoo
kim yoohyeon
i know ur seeing this
are you really going to ignore your best friend?

She was about to reply when she suddenly had second thoughts. This day started off quite nicely, and she really wanted to bake those cookies with Minji.

What if I just leave her on read?

Minsoo
ur gonna regret this

Yoohyeon gulped. No. I'm not going to let her ruin my day, she thought, muting and closing the chat.

Minji
You can come over whenever you want!
I'll always be there waiting for you <3

Warmth filled her heart as she once again found herself smiling uncontrollably.

I'm calling this the Minji effect.
