Chapter 28

"Tarkin," I said, my voice full of pure loathing. He smiled.

"I need to know about the rebels. Or else your friend here will suffer a most horrible death."

I gasped. That's not even fair! It's not Lux's fault that I'm not cooperating. That changes everything. I decided to act upset but feed him false information. That way, it's a win-win.

"Fine. What do you want."

"What systems do the Rebel bases operate on?"

"Dantooine, Courascaunt, Iego, Saleucami, and Ruusan."

"And who is in charge of all these rebel cells?"

"Fulcrum."

"Who is this 'Fulcrum'?"

"I don't know his real identity."

"Good, good," he then spoke to the Inquisitor. "I believe I have reached my limit with her lies today."

The Inquisitor smiled. "I agree."

"What?" I glared at them both. It's like I saw the next few minutes in slow motion. The Inquisitor grabbed his saber and drove the blade straight through Lux's stomach. I just stood there. It didn't process what had happend until they had left the room.

I ran over to Lux, tears in my eyes. "No, no, no, no!"

"Ahsoka," he coughed. "I was prepared.....to die for this. You.....know that."

"I'm so sorry. Let me bandage you or something. There has got to be a way to save you!" I knew deep down that Lux couldn't be healed, no matter what was done. Unlike Ventress, he didn't have a strong connection with the force. I tried to help him sit up.

"No....we both know.....that isn't possible"

"We can try. There's always a way!"

"Ahsoka, your life is not going to be easy. Be strong, be brave, and never give up hope in the darkest of times. Don't look back. Promise me."

"I......"

"Promise me."

"I promise."

I held his hand between mine. I couldn't believe that this was happening. Even after all the things we had suffered through together, this had to be one of the worst experiences of my life.

"I've....always...loved...." he tried to say, but couldn't.

I bent down and kissed his forehead. "Me too." I sat there crying as Lux died in my arms.
