9. Now of All Times..

You and Sapnap are on your way to see Elijah and Silas. It's 12 PM, the sun beating down on the car.

You have all the windows down, music blasting over the speakers..

But the ride is still so silent.

Things are still just very tense, this stomach-lurching feeling brought over you.

After opening up to Sapnap yesterday, you felt this lingering feeling of unease. It was a lot to unpack, you couldn't have expected to feel much different.

You're just really excited to see your brothers again. It's been quite a few weeks since you had seen them last..

Sapnap speaks up, taking you away from your thoughts. "What's on your mind, m'lady?"

You decide to not hold back, just spill your feelings to him.

One you finish, he nods. "Yeah, that was a lot to load on at one time, but I'm just glad you told me. I feel even closer to you than before."

You look over at him and give him a soft smile. He does the same.

He looks back to the road again, not before resting his hand on your thigh and rubbing small circles there with the pad of his thumb.

The rest of the ride remained silent.

But luckily, you guys made it to your old apartment building less than 20 minutes later.

You and Sapnap, hand in hand, walk into the building, taking the elevator up to the apartment.

*Knock, knock*

The door opens, Elijah standing behind it.

"Heya sis, hey Sap" He says, letting the two of you in.

You look around. The apartment was a mess.

There were empty beer bottles scattered on the kitchen counter, old clothes thrown all over the floor, dishes piled up in the sink..the place was a dump, to say the least.

"I knew it wasn't a good idea to move out. You guys are living like pigs in here," You retort, heading to the kitchen to start cleaning up the heaps of bottles and dishes covering the counters.

"Hey, just chill out," Elijah says, walking over to you and resting a hand on your shoulder.

You jump slightly by his touch, turning around to look him directly in the eye.

They're bloodshot.

"Wasn't expecting now of all times for you to be high off your ass, Eli."

His eyes drop to the floor. "I know, y/n. I'm sorry, I'm just super stressed about everything with Silas and Dad and my boyfriend.."

Your eyebrow raises. "Boyfriend? That's new."

Elijah's face turns pink. "Yeah, his name is Garrett, he's really sweet," He states. "But he was over the other night and Silas came home shitfaced and he said some..not so nice things to us. And now he's not picking up my calls."

You audibly sigh. "Jesus Christ Elijah, why didn't you tell me he wasn't doing good again?"

Elijah sighs. "I didn't want to. You'd just worry too much and then come back. You're happy with your friends and your boyfriend, you shouldn't have to come back for us."

You turn around, going back to cleaning up. "You're just trying to shelter me, it seems. I worry about you guys no matter what you tell me or what you don't."

"I know you do, sis.."

Sapnap comes up next to you and helps you continue to clean up the huge mess that is your sibling's apartment.
