The Dangers of Walking to School

Spongebob was walking to school, the same way he always went, not knowing his childhood friend turned bully, Squidward, would be waiting for him. Spongebob stared down at the concrete as he walked, hoping that maybe they wouldn't notice him.

Squidward pushed Spongebob over. "Hey Sponge." Squidward and his friends standing with him laughed when Spongebob fell over. When Spongebob and Squidward were still friends Squidward would use Sponge as an endearing term for the young sponge. After Squidward came back the word "Sponge" was practically derogatory.

Spongebob didn't know why he felt nervous, but he did. Squidward kicked Spongebob and then continues walking to school. SpongeBob's other childhood best friend, Patrick, was walking down the same way and went to help Spongebob.

"Spongebob are you okay!?" Patrick helped Spongebob up. Patrick's muscular arms easily hauled SpongeBob's miniscule body up. Spongebob blushed at this action.

"Yeah I'm fine." Spongebob brushed himself off. He looked at the ground, reminiscing about the times before Squidward left.

"I hate Squidward, ever since he moved back he's changed." Patrick was looking at Squidward walking farther ahead. Patrick had pure spite in his eyes. Spongebob felt bad when Patrick said that, but he can't deny the bitchiness Squidward gained as soon as he returned.

"Yeah he did change." Squidward left when they were leaving middle school and he came back when they were in their junior year of high school. When Squidward came back, Spongebob thought their friendship would continue, but Squidward was mean and he grew a lot taller and was better looking, he became popular, and him and all of his friends made fun of Spongebob, Patrick tried to console him, but Spongebob really just missed his friend.

    Patrick and Spongebob continued the walk to their high school. Patrick was wearing the same thing as always, the green and purple shorts and a plain white t-shirt, Spongebob was wearing a white dress shirt and brown shorts. Spongebob had always thought that Patrick was attractive, he had gorgeous hair and he never tried to look as handsome as he did, Patrick got confessions from pretty girls all the time, he kept turning them down, and lately Spongebob had thought that he had a crush on Patrick, maybe Patrick liked Spongebob back. Thoughts like those Spongebob quickly eradicated from his mind.

    Spongebob and Patrick continued their walk down the small sidewalk, occasionally hearing the leaves crunch loudly under their feet. Spongebob and Patrick didn't talk because of what had happened with Squidward, last year it was a daily occurrence, and they had learned to get used to it, but over the summer Squidward didn't bully Spongebob, so they were thrown off.

When the pair got to school they compared schedules, because it was the first day of a new year, they had no classes together, but they were both in the swim club so they could see each other there. They said their goodbyes and went to walk the halls looking for their separate classrooms.

Squidward used to be with them in the swimming club, but when Squidward came back, he didn't join the club, he didn't even tell Spongebob he was back, that hurt Spongebob the most, Spongebob and Squidward used to be inseparable, but now all Spongebob wants is for Squidward to stay away from him. 

Spongebob's first class is English, Spongebob saw on Patrick's schedule they didn't have English together, unlike last year, last year when Spongebob and Patrick had English together they would pass notes in the back of the classroom and laugh about inside jokes.

Spongebob hoped that today he wouldn't have to see Squidward anymore, he didn't want to deal with Squidward bullying him again today.

When Spongebob got to his English classroom he immediately noticed a familiar face in the classroom, sitting in the back of the room, looking out the window, his desk surrounded by other popular kids, it was Squidward Tentacles.
