"Many of you may know by the Roane County line received a call a little after midnight reporting a homicide here on the lake.

Officer Callahan here and myself arrived first on the scene. We made our way to the shore of Lover's Lake about ten yards from that house you see behind me.

It was there that we found the victim, an 18-year-old senior from Hawkins High, Patrick McKinney.

His limbs, his body, it was disfigured. There was an eyewitness on the scene, we have also identified a person of interest. Eddie Munson.

We encourage anyone with information to, please, come forward."

Eddie speaks into the radio, jolting Astoria, who didn't expect the noise. "Dustin, can you hear me? Wheeler?" They both wait in anticipation for an answer.

A voice comes through the radio, "Eddie, Astoria, holy shit, are you okay?" Eddie makes a face, and the girl didn't blame him. They really needed their help back there.

"Nah, man, pretty goddamn far from okay," Eddie replies in an annoyed tone. "Where are you?" Astoria grabs the radio, "Skull Rock, do you know where that is?"

The boy on the radio says he knows where it is, and adds a "Hold tight, we're coming," before shutting his radio off again.

Eddie nods vigorously and gratefully, sighing when the radio goes static again. The girl leans her head against the rock behind her. "At least we're not dead," she says chuckling.

"Yeah, that'd totally suck," he agrees. A profound silence looms over the two for a few minutes, but they're both thinking about the same thing. Eachother.

It's weird to admit that you might have feelings for your enemy. Especially when it's unsure whether they like you back.

But neither of them would show it, so neither of them think that they like each other. It's torturous.

They both go to talk at the same time, Eddie insists she goes first. "I... really appreciate you comforting me back there," she says slowly, looking down to avoid eye contact.

When he doesn't reply she squeezed her eyes shut. "It's fine," he finally says. "You're my friend now, I guess."

Friend. It feels like a shard has been stabbed into her heart. God fucking damn it.

Astoria forces a smile and nods, looking up at him, "Friends." Another stab, but this time at Eddie's.

They stare at each other for a moment, dangerously close. Birds tweet in the distance, and for a moment everything seems as if it is perfect. He scans her face, every pore, every eyelash, doesn't go unnoticed.

His eyes stop on her lips. So much for just friends, he thinks. Taking the leap, he grabs her waist slowly, she looks down at where his hand is placed and then looks back up at him.
