"Watch out!" Clone commander Bly shouts and I duck, narrowly missing the blaster shot that sails over my head. I turn and slash my lightsaber through the air, cutting the attacking droid in half with a slight spin of my wrist.
The battle of Felucia is a tough one, even with my old master by my side. Aayla Secura twists beside me, managing to deflect the blaster shot heading her way. She is a skilled fighter and she has trained me well enough to hold my own, even if this is the worst battle I have ever fought in.
A droideka aims its blaster at me but I spin my blade, destroying the hunk of metal before it can even begin to raise its shields.
"Nice one General." Bly calls to me as he runs past. I cringe inwardly at the military title, not quite used to it yet. I was only recently granted the rank of Jedi Knight and as this clone squadron is my master's it feels strange hearing myself being called anything of a high rank.
I continue to attack, the movement of my lightsaber natural, like its an extension of my arm. I don't stop until the entire area is clear of droids, moving back into a defensive position, glancing around me to make sure everyone is okay. I notice a few clones lying a few feet away from me, motionless. Aayla is leaning over them, checking for a pulse but as she stands up I know that they are truly gone. Her face is distraught but in this war we don't have time to grieve.
More droids are coming forward. Their shots becoming desperate as we continue to take them out, their shots barely grazing us. As I twist my lightsaber around, deflecting the shots, I allow myself a few quick seconds to think about the possibility of returning to Coruscant, to my warm and inviting bed, to a nice, hot bath. I haven't been home in months. I know that we are fighting for an important cause but sometimes I wish my life was normal.
Speaking about normal, I stick my lightsaber out just in time to stop a blaster shot from hitting Bly, saving his life once more. I throw the lightsaber into the droid, slicing it in half, using the force to direct the blade. Bly is utterly distracted by the message that has appeared on his arm. I walk over to him to see what is going on but the figure flickers away just as I get to him. His shoulders appear to sag in defeat so I turn, thinking that he has seen a massive army of droids. But no the area is completely empty apart from our squadron.
He raises his arm ever so slightly as if beckoning to the other clones and I look at Aayla, both of us sharing a confused glance. I back away when they all raise their guns in our direction. I laugh believing that they are playing a joke on us. "What are you doing?" I don't get an answer. The sounds of blasters going off reaches my ears and I block the shots, not wanting to hurt them but also not wanting to get shot myself.
My blade arches through the air, completely on the defensive. Aayla calls to me and I carefully step closer to her, continuing to deflect the shots. "You have to get out of here. Warn the others of what is happening. Tell them that our clones are malfunctioning." I nod my head, trusting her. I had seen her win fights worse than this. The clones will soon shake this madness off and everything will be fine. As Jedi we are taught faith and so I must have faith now.
I duck and roll to avoid getting hit, deflecting any blaster shots heading my way. I step onto the ramp of our ship, watching Aayla move swiftly to bat back the blaster shots.
