"This plan will never work." Vader says, as he paces back and forth across the training room floor. It looks just as it does in my memories, but that doesn't ease any of my pain.

We arrived on Coruscant earlier today, and were immediately directed to the old training room. It's where we have been for the past two hours, discussing the likelihood of whether my idea will work or not. I personally think it will but Vader is, for some reason, being overly cautious. It's like he's scared about sending Rex onto the front line but he used to be a soldier. Vader must know this, he must know that Rex is used to facing danger. So he can't be scared, can he?

It's not like Rex hasn't agreed to the idea. In fact that's what we're doing now, we're getting him into 'costume'.

I pull the ragged, brown cloak over his shoulders, adjusting it so the frayed parts are directly on show to any onlookers. Underneath the cloak, Rex is wearing a full set of 501st armour, minus his helmet. Fives had managed to find a scratched up set among his things. He claimed that it wasn't his, that he would never disrespect his armour in such a way to get it so damaged but I didn't believe him, especially because he was grinning as he said so.

He's such an unbelievably crap liar. I don't get why he didn't just say it was hit during a battle.

Anyway, once Rex's armour is perfect, I move onto his face, gently attaching the fake beard. "Are you sure you're okay doing this?" I whisper to him as I lean in closer.

"I wouldn't have agreed to it, if I didn't want to do it."

"Yes, you would have." He looks as though he's going to protest but then he stops himself.

"Yeah, I probably would have. But that's not why I'm doing this. It has very little to do with loyalty and being a soldier. I actually really think the idea is a good one."

"Thank you, Rex. I'm glad someone thinks so." I nod my head in the direction of Vader who appears to still be ranting about how shit my idea is. It's not like he could think of a better one, so when me, Rex and Fives out voted him he had to agree to it. I honestly don't know why he lets the pair get away with so much.

I step away from Rex and admire my handiwork. I smile. He looks exactly like a veteran clone - the perfect disguise. The beings living in Coruscant's underworld will see a helpless clone and we will have a spy, someone to see everything, someone that is going to report back to us via holoprojector. The only risk - someone might discover him to be one of the highest ranking officers of the Empire.

Seeing Rex looking like this makes me think of my old clone comrades. I wonder, not for the first time, if they ended up on the streets begging for money. A part of me wants to be furious at them for killing my master, but all I feel is a deep well of pity. They didn't want to do it, like I don't want to murder innocent people to keep my cover but we all do what we must to survive.

I just wish I had known about the chips in their heads before my master was murdered so that I could have prevented order 66 from happening.

"He looks almost unrecognizable (y/ n)! Well apart from the fact that he looks like a clone." Fives scratches the back of his head. "I just mean he doesn't look like Rex. He looks like an average clone so well done."

"Thank you Fives."

"Am I good to go then?"

"Rex, can I have a minute with you. Alone." Vader says, his face looking in my direction. What a pain in the ass. Rex nods and they go to the corner of the room. I busy myself by collecting Rex's old armour and putting it in a small pile. I'm just finishing up when Rex's voice carries to this side of the room. He must have raised it.
