I tighten the hold on my lightsaber as the figure resembling the long dead Sith lord makes his way closer to me. I know he's not real. I've faced this version of him before. I can do it again. After all he was made to face padawans wanting to become Jedi Knights and I was much more skilled than a padawan.
I spin my lightsaber in a wide arc in front of me, beckoning the simulacrum forward. "Thousands have died at my hand and you will too, young one."
"I don't think so old man." I lunge forward to strike him but he deflects my lightsaber with his own. The force he puts behind his hit almost knocks me off my feet. I had almost forgotten how strong he was and it seems he has only gotten stronger somehow. He moves to attack me again but I roll out of the way, using the same move I had been taught a lifetime ago.
Frustrated, the simulacrum raises his hand and this I remember all to well. The pain of the electricity as it courses through my body was not easy to forget but this time I can anticipate his moves. I raise my lightsaber and with all the strength my body possesses I manage to deflect the bolts at one of the bookshelves to my right.
I am breathing heavily and it doesn't look like he's going to give up any time soon. I need to do something and quick. "The Jedi Council struggled to defeat me, what makes you think you can on your own?" He continues to taunt me which causes my anger to rise and you know what the Sith say. Anger makes you stronger.
"The council have nothing on me." I throw myself forward, my lightsaber clashing against his once again. The air around him crackles and he splutters out for a second, as if the simulacrum was damaged by my attack. Good.
"This kind of aggression is not the way of the Jedi. There was once a powerful padawan, not unlike yourself, who had a similar fighting style and you know what happened to him? He found a fate worse than death, some might say." He grunts from the effort of speaking and fighting.
"Well, it's a good job I'm not a Jedi then, isn't it?" He's trying to distract me with his words but I know to ignore him, instead focusing on smashing my blade against his, weakening him with every move I make. When I faced this trial before (as a padawan) I let his words get to me but now I have learnt to tune him out, focusing on my fighting instead. Listening to him is what makes one fail the task and I refuse to let it happen to me.
He's distracted by my endurance of his words and it allows me my window for the attack that will destroy him. I use the force to grab hold of the bookshelves and I pull them down around him. Believing he is about to be crushed, he uses the force to hold them in place. I laugh to myself. He actually fell for my trick. This distraction was my intention all along.
I move forward, my feet making no sound on the stone floors. He turns at the last minute, a moment too late. I push my red blade into his stomach and he gasps, moving forward to clutch his middle. I let him fall ungracefully to the floor. I pull my lightsaber out of him, pushing my leg against him to free it.
"You will never be free of me padawan." He sneers one last taunt before he fades out of existence.

I exit the room, the door banging harshly against the wall. I can't help the smile that makes its way onto my face. I've done it. I've made it to the final task.
