The next morning rolled around quicker than he thought. Gavin groaned once realising he was awake. Sitting up, he stretched to relieve any stress in his back before walking to the room across from his. Upon entry, he nearly had a heart attack as the bed sheets did not contain the girl from the night before. He ran out of the room, rushing to find Y/n.

"You okay, Gavin?" He looked over at the girl who was cooking in the kitchen, a confused look on her face.

"What the fuck are you doing here?"

"You said I could live here?"

"No, I mean-" He let out a sigh of frustration, "What are you doing making food at 9 in the morning?"

"I was feeling bad about your hand so I'm making breakfast as a geet well soon." She dished out the bacon and eggs onto a plate, handing it to him along with a mug that she had poured newly brewed coffee into, "Sorry if the coffee isn't great, I couldn't remember exactly what you like your coffee like-"

"It's fine, Y/n." He said, sitting at the table to eat while he watched Rain eat her cat food, "You fed Rain?"

"Of course I did."

"Okay then." He heard his house phone ring, watching as Y/n walked over to answer it.

"Hello?"

"Y/n, is that you?"

"Yep, I made Gavin some breakfast."

"Right, well, I'd just like to let you know that you have a big day today. Discovering all of that red ice was a massive deal and you're wanted in as soon as possible. Make sure that Gavin doesn't strain his hand too much."

"Of course."

"Thank you, Y/n. I'll see you at work."

"Will do. Bye, Captain!" She put the phone down, turning to Gavin who was eating. "Fowler called."

"I heard."

"He wants you in today." He checked the clock in the kitchen which read 9:34, "And that all of that red ice we found is a massive step forward."

"Nice." He finished his food and coffee, standing up from his seat, "I'm gonna get changed. Make sure you eat something, I don't want you fuckin' passing out on me."

"Yes, sir." She dished some of the bacon and eggs onto her own plate, sitting in the second seat across from where Gavin had sat just moments ago.

Yawning, the man used some deodorant before changing into a pair of jeans and a plain black top. He attached his badge to his jeans along with his handcuffs and gun before throwing his jacket on, spraying some cologne while he was there. He walked into the bathroom, brushing his teeth while looking in the mirror.

She watched him leave the bathroom and grab his phone and keys before he began looking through his cupboards for something. She got off the chair, taking the plates and mug as she began to wash them, watching him occasionally through the window in the kitchen.

"I can feel you staring at me, Priss."

"You can't prove shit." Finishing the washing, she left the dishes to dry before she turned around, coming face to face with Gavin. She jumped, pushing him away from her, "Jesus, Gavin!"

He burst into hysterics, "You're fine, Priss!" He handed her his first aid kit and began to unwrap his bandage which revealed the wound from the night before, "You up to patching this up for me?"

"Sure, sit down while I dry my hands." He sat at the table, the air hitting his hand making it sting a little. Sitting beside him, she held his hand in her own gently as she began to wrap his hand up. Keeping his hand steady for her, he watched as she tied the bandage up before letting go of his calloused hand and standing up. "I'm going to go get dressed. Try not to get that wet, got it?"

"Yeah, yeah, whatever you say, mom."

"Fuck off, Reed." Leaving the room, he watched every step she took into her room. He ran his uninjured hand through his hair and sighed, standing up to grab his wallet and their portable coffee cups. After some time, the girl left in a blouse, pants, boots and his jacket. She looked like she was trying to make the outfit work with the jacket and it worked. Staring as she walked to the mirror by the front door so she could sort her hair out, he noticed how short the large jacket she had got him made her look.

"Merry Christmas, Mrs Reed!"

"Oh please, honey, just call me Carol." She smiled, welcoming her into the home as usual. Today was one of the few days that Gavin's mother got off work, unlike Y/n's uncle who was busy at work until late into the night. "Are you not staying with your family this year?"

"Oh, I live with my uncle but he's at work late tonight so I thought I'd drop off some gifts and cookies!"

"You're such a dear!" Carol gave the girl a tight hug, glad that this girl had come to look out for her family. "GAVIN, COME DOWNSTAIRS! I'll make you some hot cocoa, you just make yourself at home."

"Thank you, Carol." Taking her coat and shoes off, she walked into the living room. Gavin's house wasn't huge as it was just himself and his mother so the living room was only containing a Christmas tree and some tinsel above the fireplace as the Christmas decor. She heard some footsteps pounding against the stairs as Gavin walked into the living room.

"Priss? What are you doin' here?"

"My uncle is busy at work so I wanted to drop off some gifts."

"GAVIN, I'M MAKING HOT COCOA, DO YOU WANT SOME?"

"SURE!" Gavin huffed in embarrassment before sitting down. He was wearing a comfortable pair of sweatpants and a band t-shirt that she recognised to be The Rolling Stones, a zip up hoodie warming up his cold body.

Carol walked in some time later, three cups of the hot beverage on a tray while Y/n took out the tupperware box containing the cookies she had baked, "I'm not much of a chef but my uncle loves these cookies when I make them for Christmas so I thought I'd share some with you two."

"Oh, Y/n, you're the most thoughtful dear we've ever had in this house." The mother was first to reach and try one, an explosion of sweet flavour warming her heart, "These are amazing! Gavin, try one!"

"Oh, I'm not the biggest fan of sweet shit-"

"Language, Gavin."

"Sorry, mom." Sighing, he gave in to the peer pressure and took a bite of one, his thoughts on sweet things changing forever, "Holy shit, these are great!"

"Gavin!"

"Sorry, sorry."

"I'm glad you both like them. Thank you for the hot cocoa, Carol." She took a sip of her beverage, smiling at how at home she felt with the two. She loved Hank, of course, but it was nice to be around more than just her uncle at this time of year. After some chatting and joking, Y/n placed her cup down. "You two should open your presents now. I know that it's early but I'd really like to see your reactions!"

Carol gave in, taking the present that was her's and carefully unwrapping it. There, under the wrapping paper, was a hand vacuum, "Oh my goodness!"

"Gavin was telling me about how you've been wanting to get one for yourself so I thought it would be nice-" She was engulfed with a shaky hug, the woman getting emotional.

"You're so generous, thank you so much. This is a wonderful gift, dear." Gavin watched the scene and felt his heart flutter a little. He had had a few flings and friends in the past that were nice enough to his mother that they could have a conversation, but Y/n was completely different. Seeing his mother so happy around one of his friends made him feel so... so...

"Gavin, this is your present." Handing him a neatly wrapped gift, he let a breathy laugh out before unwrapping it. The girls watched intently as his eyes lit up and he lifted a black jacket. It was the exact same jacket as the one he wore but instead in a black shade. "I know that your other jacket got pretty beaten up recently so... I thought that getting you a new one would be nice!"

"It's..." He could smell the sweet fruit scent coming off the jacket and it made the tears of his ears light up, "It's perfect, Y/n. Thanks."
