"There's nothing on her phone!"

Driving home was usually filled with music from the radio or a casual conversation about what they were going to eat for dinner or who was going to wash the dishes. However, the day had been rough. After waiting for the phone they didn't find a single lead. No messages or calls to indicate that she had ever set any kind of meeting up with anybody.

"Maybe it was one of the neighbours?"

"We've questioned the people in those houses already. Most were in their houses at the time of the murder and didn't see anything."

"What about the cameras?"

"What do you mean 'cameras'?"

"Well, I've been here a little longer than you. The rich bastards wanted cameras on the streets for more safety and the Government gave it to them for a price. They paid and were given their cameras. Alice's family was cozy but not rich like Gemma was. I'm guessing she got money from a sugar daddy or something cause they got the same wage."

"So, what you're saying is that Gemma's street had cameras but Alice's didn't?"

"Yeah, exactly. So, if we can get onto those cameras-"

"Gavin, turn the car around! We need to get on those cameras!"

"Woah, calm down. We can't just demand access to the cameras. I'll call Fowler and have him ask for the access to the cameras and then we'll check it out in the morning."

"But-"

"Hey," The car stopped at a red light, the brunette holding his hand atop the woman's, "I promise I'll call him as soon as we get home and we'll save them tomorrow. It takes a couple of hours to get the cameras anyway." The light turned yellow before turning green, pushing his foot down on the pedal as he began driving again, "Plus, you haven't eaten anything all day."

"I forgot."

"I know you did. Today's been... pretty shitty. But the good thing is that we can save the other two victims so you don't need to worry."

"Yeah... yeah, okay..."

Walking through the halls, her arms holding her folders to her chest. Papers and dividers kept the folder from closing, all of it containing her science notes. Finding the way to her locker, she pushed the hair from her face and unlocked the door, opening it before she fit the folder into a free space she had made at the start of the year for her folders, removing another folder that was just as big, containing her maths notes.

Leaning the heavy binder against her chest, she moved to close the door when it was slammed by someone else. Looking beside her, she saw someone she hadn't spoken to in months, "Tommy, why did you slam my locker closed?"

"Looked like you needed some help, babe!"

"Don't call me that." Sighing, she rested the binder on her hip with an arm wrapped around it, rubbing the bridge of her nose, "Why are you here? I thought you were failing History."

"I am! That's why I was gonna ask for your help."

"No."

"What?"

"Tommy, I'm really busy right now. I'm busy studying for the finals, I'm planning prom, I'm tutoring Gavin-"

"Tutoring? HA! We all know what tutoring means, slut."

"Unlike you, Tommy, Gavin actually wants my help and not just my body-"

"So, you admit it? You're fucking around with Gavin Reed?"

"Tommy, you don't-"

"Oh, no, I understand perfectly clear! Hey, everybody!" He called out to everyone in the hall, gathering everyone around the two of them, "Looks like our perfect little vice president is sleeping around with the resident asshole, Gavin fucking Reed!"

"Tommy, stop it!"

"I don't think I will. I think that the WHOLE SCHOOL deserves to know how much of a little slut you are, Y/n-"

She didn't realise what was happening until she was on the floor, leaned against the lockers. A figure stood above her, their back facing her. Holding her folder in their hands, her eyes trailed to the body slumped against the lockers who's breathing was shallow. Tommy was knocked unconscious, blood pouring from a wound on the side of his head near his temple.

"Holy shit! Reed killed Tommy!"

Gavin stood, breathing heavily as he looked down at the boy. Dropping the binder, he shoved past the crowd without a second glance to the girl who had only just taken in the situation. "Some... Someone get a teacher! NOW!" Some students ran to get teachers while others stayed behind to watch the scene unfold.

As guilty as she felt for him getting hurt, she was extremely thankful for Gavin doing that for her. Of course, this did mean she'd need to figure out a way to take the blame off of him. Finally, 2 teachers arrived and, together, they hauled the boy away whilst the rest of the students fled the scene.

Sighing, she rubbed her eyes.

"Y/n, come on, we need to feed you." Gavin said, the door open on her side of the car. Realising she was supposed to be leaving the car, she unbuckled herself and grabbed her bag before she got out of the car, letting Gavin close the door before they rushed into the house, "You feed Rain, Sun and Snow while I sort you some dinner out."

"You mean sort us some dinner out?"

"Obviously, I'm fuckin' starving!"

Yawning, she dished some cat food out for the cats before changing into some comfy clothes, lifting her legs onto the seats of the couch where she relaxed for once. Work had been so hectic that day that she barely noticed how hungry or tired she was. Turning the TV on, she watched a mind-numbing game show that she kept guessing the answers to, cheering when she got them right. One episode had passed before Gavin left the kitchen with two plates in his hand, both having pizza and fries on them.

They ate on opposite sides of the couch, neither giving in to the urge to lean on one another and feel the other's body warmth. Gavin took the plates to wash them, coming back to see his roommate completely out cold in her own dreamland. Giving a soft smile to the girl, he lifted her up from the couch, carrying her to her own room where he tucked her in, pressing a kiss to his pointer and middle finger before gently pressing the two fingers to her forehead. Darkening the room, he left with a final glance at the woman he loved.

The woman he'd save.
