Run Boy Run — Woodkid

"Tomorrow is another day,
And you won't have to hide away
You'll be a man, boy,
But for now it's time to run, it's time to run"

The bustling of Ninjago's streets filled the world around it's citizens. The flourishing buildings and the neon lights make it susceptible to the culture that flooded the city. The warm Summer breeze flying in from the bay into the downtown streets but never finding its way into the parks surrounding the outer city skirts.

Grey clouds filled the Summer sun sky, abolishing it from being viewed from the life that awaited its blistering heat down below. But the light never came. Only an equation of limited rainfall, no breeze, and sweltering heat creating humid, sticky air that made your skin feel like it could melt. Only, it never would and you would be surrounded by the never ending torturous nature of Summer.

But as the dawn slowly became high noon, the clouds thickened and the limited wind grew harsh. Dry leaves swept across the now bare streets as heavy rains pelted against the asphalt roads.

Yet one remained.

Underneath checkered fabric outside of an old, closed cafe I sat, waiting for the storm to pass, knowing that nightfall would come long before this Summer storm would come to an end.

Powerlines that lined the roads swayed precariously beside buildings made me pull my legs up further into my chest as I sat, cowering from the harsh world. Despite the unpredictable weather and outcome this storm would have, I couldn't help but admire the beauty as sun rays bounced off of the darkened clouds, making them look almost enchanting. Like the things you could only imagine, reading about in fantasy novels as a dragon soared through, making its perfectly timed presence known.

Only this wasn't that. As if the first Spinjitzu Master could hear me, the sight disappeared in minutes replaced with a black sky and howling winds, crashing through alleyways and any little nooks that it could find itself in.

And it was about this time of day that I usually bit the inside of my cheek, wishing that I had stayed in the orphanage. The bitter thoughts of having a home by now were endlessly running through my mind as I spiralled into what could've been.

Yet here I was, cradling myself on the streets, hoping a storm would pass before it became electrical and alarmingly dangerous to be outside at all. Oh what a complete incompetent, idiot I had been. The other twelve year olds could do what they were told, so why couldn't I? Why did I have to be the difficult child who ruined everything for myself?

But there was no answer. Only a brittle reminder that I had been placed here on Earth only to be belittled by myself and people passing by.

Even the old man that came out from the tea shop just around the corner stared me down with no obvious hints of emotions in his eyes. Just an unwavering gaze on my small stature that made me want to feel uneasy. Strangely enough, I didn't feel that at all. Only feelings of caution, as I realised he began his approach.
