"Delusional," Adira asked him with a scoff and a roll of her eyes, "I'm not ducking delusional. And you are all acting like cowards right now, we can defeat him."
"Listen here gi-"
"Hey!" Eddie suddenly called out, "if I may interject gentleman, sweetheart. Whilst I respect the passion, you'd be wise to take Gareth the greats concern to heart. There is no shame in running," Eddie said and shrugged his shoulders over at them
"Yes there is, why the hell would you run when you can stay and fight. To defend your comrades and avenge those who were lost," Adira fired back at him
"Look sweat heart, all I'm saying is don't try to be hero's. Not today, okay?" Eddie told her
"Quit calling me that," Adira muttered to him and rolled her eyes, she moved away from the boys and went and sat back down in her chair
Eddie looked at her with an unreadable look on his face. He had never really realised it before, but she seemed to get worked up pretty easily. He opened his mouth to say something to her but closed it again when he couldn't find the right words. He didn't know what he wanted to say to her. He didn't blame her for being short tempered or passionate, he actually really liked that about her, and not to mention that fact that he couldn't blame her for it either, she had gone through so much and lost a great amount.
He'd heard stories about her home life from Dustin and he found it odd. From taking a glance at the Harrington siblings you would think that everything in their lives were perfect, but after hearing Dustin talk about the way that they were treated by their parents, he knew it clearly wasn't the case and that there was so much to the girl that he didn't know.
Adira just planned on sitting their in her chair in silence now until the rest of the group had made up their minds about what they wanted to do next
Dustin however, grabbed her by the arm and dragged her back over to them and this time forced her into the huddle, "alright, let's talk about this okay and see what the best option is. Mike what do you think?"
"How many hit points do you and demon slayer have?" Mike asked Dustin
"Twelve," Dustin and Adira reply sharply
"It is risky as hell, but you guys are the ones that are on the battlefield," Mike tells them, the two of them nod as they listen intently to what Mike has to say, "so that means that it is up to you two. It's your call."
"Well, what do you say demon slayer?" Dustin asked Adira with an unsure look on his chubby face
"I'm pretty sure that you already know my answer," Adira replied with a raised eyebrow and hinted over to the table
"Screw it," Dustin spits out and nods at his team before they all turn around to face Eddie, "let's kill that sun of a bitch."
"The chances of success are 20-1," Gareth tried to reason with them but it was clear that neither Dustin or Adira wanted to hear it, their minds were already made up
"Never tell me the odds," Dustin demands, raising his hand in the air to tell Gareth to not tell him anything else that would attempt to sway his mind, "give me the D20," Dustin motions to the dice and sticks his palm out towards Eddie
Eddie looked amused as he grabbed the dice off the table and threw it over to Dustin who obviously wasn't going to catch it so Adira quickly stuck her hand out in front of Dustin's face and caught it before it hit him square in the nose
"Thanks," Dustin muttered as she placed the dice in his palm and gave him a curt nod
"You got this D," Adira encouraged him. Dustin brought the dice up near his face and began to shake it violently before dropping it on the table. They all watched in anticipation as it continued to bounce around, seemingly taking forever as they waited to see the outcome of the roll l, their patience wearing more and more thin as the seconds past them by.
Finally, it stopped rolling and unfortunately landed on 11. Eddie began to jumble around, "that's a miss!" He exclaimed in a deeper voice than his own
"No!" They all began to yell out, practically blaming the dice as it sat there innocently
"Shit. Shit shit," Dustin continued to cry out in frustration as he mentally cursed himself and the dice on the table before them that clearly wasn't showing the number that they needed it to land on. He whacked his game piece off the board in anger
Adira grabbed the D20 in the hand, holding it tightly as she brought it up to her lips and kissed the outside of her hand. Everyone watched be intently as they waited for her to roll the dice. This was it. This was the decider of the game. Whatever she rolled would determine if they win Eddie's campaign or not. She flung the dice onto the table, watching the scene before her in slow motion, she prayed it would land on 20. She didn't want to let her team down
"Please!"
"Come on!"
"Please!"
"This is it!"
Even Eddie couldn't help but stare at the dice intensely as they waited for it to stop rolling, it landed right in front of Vecna and finally stopped, showing them the two digit number on top.
20.
"Critical hit bitches!" Adira cheered out loudly and they all began to cheer and jump around in excitement, they did it. They had beat the campaign and defeated Vecna.
"That's why we play!" Eddie cheered out in astonishment
"Yeah Adira!" Mike and Dustin cheered excitedly and threw their arms around her, extremely happy that she had decided to play with them.
Adira stood back as they boys all huddled together and began jumping in circles, cheering loudly in happiness
Eddie made her way over to Adira who stood by herself. She smiled up at him, "hey I'm really sorry for snapping at you before. I don't really take it very well when things don't go my way," she said with a small, yet very apologetic grin
Eddie just smiled widely at her and shrugged his shoulders, "don't even worry about it Harrington, it's an intense game and you lived up to its standards. Besides, we wouldn't of even been able to play tonight if it weren't for you, not to mention I think the boys are all starting to really like you."
Adira furrowed her eyebrows, "I have to disagree with you there," she explained, she was pretty sure that the boys, except for Dustin and Mike, didn't like her in the slightest
Eddie just nudged her shoulder playfully, "I've known these guys for years, trust me, if they didn't like you then they wouldn't have let you play. They had a lot of fun tonight... I had a lot of fun tonight and I'm really glad that you came."
"I'm really glad that I came too, i had a lot of fun and if I didn't, all I'd be doing is going to the basketball game or watching tv," she explained and shrugged her shoulders, "it was a pleasure to join hellfire for the night."
"For the night?" He asked her with a raised eyebrow
"For the night."
