"Straightforward my ass," Steve said and let out a long sigh before finally reading the article in his hand and then looking straight back over to Dustin, "honestly Henderson, a little humility now and then, it wouldn't hurt you," he said and Dustin rolled his eyes
"Sorry," Dustin said and looked down in amusement. Steve sat down and crossed his legs dramatically before beginning to read more articles finally.
"Oh King Steve, is the little kids ego almost as big as yours was in high school?" Adira said to her brother, sticking out her bottom lip in a dramatic pout, "it's okay, give him a year or so and you'll practically be identical."
Eddie let out a snort of laughter and plonked himself down on the couch next to Adira. Steve flipped his sister off and glared at her, "my ego was nowhere near as bad as Henderson's."
"Whatever you say buddy," Adira said with a snicker and goofy smirk
"And I am not going to turn out like high school Steve Harrington," Dustin said and rolled his eyes
Steve's eyes widened dramatically as he looked over at Dustin, "what's that supposed to mean Henderson?"
"Oh nothing, nothing," Dustin replied with a smirk before going back to reading his article that was getting more and more crumpled in his hand the more he got distracted from it. Steve flipped him off with a scoff before looking at his own article.
"Do they always bicker like this?" Eddie whispered to Adira, a grin on his face
"Like an old married couple?" Adira asked with a huge grin, "hell yeah," she snickers with a nod before turning to Lucas, "ask Lucas here. We are the ones who usually have to sit there and listen while mum Steve and baby Dustin argue."
"Tell me about it," Lucas agreed with a small chuckle
"I heard you won your basketball game," Adira said with a wide and proud grin as she tapped the boy on the shoulder, "and not to mention that you got the winning point. I gotta tell you, I was pissed off that I didn't go, I can't believe that the one game I didn't go to, you kicked all that ass!" Adira said proudly
Lucas couldn't help but smile widely at the girl. The truth was, he had been really disappointed when he hadn't seen the girl go to his basketball game, even though she was the only person that ever went to his games, not to mention that she had been to every single one of his games before that, he had been upset not to see her face in the crowd or have her come up and hug him and congratulate him like she always did even on the games where he had just sat on the bench the whole game
"I'm really sorry I didn't come to your game Lucas, it was really shitty of me," Adira said, a frown coming onto her face
Lucas shook his head with a smile, "it's okay."
Adira hugged the boy before her eyes fell on the back of Maxine's head and a sad look fell on her face
"Any idea what she's writing over there?" Dustin asked as he noticed Adira staring over at Max who had been sitting in the corner quietly for the last few hours, writing something that she wouldn't let them see
Adira pulled away from Lucas
"Nope," Eddie and Adira muttered out
"Did she sleep?" Dustin asked, all of them giving her a concerned look.
"I doubt it, I mean... would you?" Adira muttered out to them before giving Lucas a comforting pat on the shoulder, she knew how much Max meant to him.
She gave him a sympathetic look before getting up out of her seat and walking over to Max. She placed her hand on Maxine's shoulder who flinched immediately, "hey hey, it's okay Maxie, it's just me," Adira quickly said and Maxine apologised before calming down quickly, "you okay over here?" She asked, even though and knew that it was a stupid question. It was clear that she wasn't fine. Neither of them were
