HARPER

Eri was already asleep when we reached the car, probably tired for the day. I chose to sit on the passenger seat since she was occupying all the space at the back.

Upon entering, I could already smell a strong ambience inside. Judging from the interior, you can already guess that the owner of it isn't someone meticulous, but is perfect on systemizing things. The mother.

My eyes were distracted when my phone screen lit up. Zyle sent a message.

'Where are you guys?'

'Going to the jail'

'Why?'

'Oh yeah that's right, tell the
police how crazy that Hyena Company is. Make sure they
get a death sentence'

'Were going there
to see the mother'

'Which mother?'

'Your mother'

'Seriously? you're
adding the 'the?"

'Yes.'

'Dude, you're making me
wanna say 'ewan ko sayo.'
Anyways, say hi to mom for me.
Tell her I'm still alive and can
still move my bones.'

I turned off the phone since I don't think there's much more important to talk about. I stared at the father who still hasn't started driving. He was staring blankly at the windshield, looking uneasy and nervous.

''Zac?' He called and I just continued to look at him. He sighed. 'I'm very sorry for keeping this to you.''

''Keeping what?''

"About your lost brother.' He sighed once more. 'You're a smart child. I'm sure you already know about him''

I nodded. "Yes" Zac probably does, which is why he looked for me in the first place. Though, I'm not sure if our first meet turned out well.

"Do you think your lost brother is still alive?"

"How about you? Do you think he is?" I questioned back. If you knew he still does, would you look for him? Even though he doesn't want to be found?

"I don't know." He answered. "Wala akong ibang sinisisi kundi ang sarili ko sa nangyari."

"Why?"

"I wasn't careful enough. I promised to your mother that I will handle everything the best I can." He sighed, full of disappointment. "And now look at her, struggling herself behind the bars."

"It's a circumstance, something no one can govern and control. It's no one's fault." I said. I honestly don't blame anyone for whatever that's happening to me. If it's fate, then it's destined. No one can stop it.

I felt my phone vibrating, stealing my attention again.

The Yao Master is calling.

"Zac" The father called and suddenly, I turned down the call and turned my phone off. I don't know why. I felt as if after all these years living, these people with me, somehow made me feel something I never had back then.
Before, I just used to think of them as my family by blood, nothing more.
But right now, I don't know what, but something of me is changing.

I returned my attention back to the father.

"In case your brother is alive," he let out a heavy breaht. "..do you think he's going to accept us as his family?"
