The first time a state died impermanently, requested by NewLostIslands

It hurt so much.

A burning, piercing pain that seemed to penetrate New York's very being, draining him of all his strength, strength which seemed to bleed out of him.

New York heard people screaming and yelling, their voices so faint and distant. Everything seemed so far away.

"New York!" he heard his Pap's voice say, his voice sounding miles away and so, so muffled.

New York tried to respond, but when he did, he felt liquid—blood—bubble up from his throat and come out instead. He felt his pap's hands press down on his stomach.

New York opened his eyes, not realizing that they had closed. He saw Pap's lips moving, but his voice was gone.

What was happening?

His head tipped forward, and blood began spilling out of his lips. His vision was getting fuzzy and black, the pain being replaced by a numbness that started to consume his entire body. Everything was getting so dark like the night was falling.

Was it?

Was night falling?

But why did everything feel so weird?

Maybe New York should just sleep. Everything should be better when he wakes up.

Who was screaming?

Pap?

Was that you?

Don't worry. He's just going to take a short nap, Pap.
