I woke up to the morning sunlight warming my face, I was so tired last night that I hadn't remembered to close the blinds. I stretched my legs out realising there wasn't nearly enough space, which is odd because I swear I had a double bed. I sit up in a fright, suddenly remembering where I was. I wasn't in my childhood home, waking up to the smell of coffee and my dad singing along to the radio. No, I was lead on a springy, rock hard mattress that belonged to my college dorm. I moved in yesterday, and I wasn't settled in at all. But who was on their first few days? Luckily though, I didn't have a roommate to share the practically shoe sized room with. Which, without a doubt wouldn't have helped my home sickness, infact I think it would've made it worse. However that did mean I hadn't met anyone yet. So that was my task for today, hopefully I have more luck then I did back in high school. Thankfully, I had no problems rambling on to other people, the problem was that no one was willing to listen to me. I suppose my wacky dresses and grandma-like cardigans scared people away. Or maybe I just had an insufferable personality. Who knows.

My thoughts were interrupted by the ringing of my phone. I searched frantically for it, finding it hiden under my favourite pair of frog slippers.

"Elza-bug! Are you prepared for your first day at college?" The sound of my dads cheery voice warmed my heart.

"Hey Pa! I am about to get ready now."

"Oh good, I hope you have a brilliant first day bug. I love you! Don't forget about your old man."

"Oh don't be so ridiculous Pa! I'd never forget you. But I better go I don't wish to be late on the first day. I will speak to you soon."

"I expect weekly calls from you Elza Hart."

"Of course Pa. Bye, love you!" I screamed down the phone, hanging up before he had chance to reply.

I had finally arrived at what I assumed was the right place, considering I just barged right in and helped myself to a seat. I had made a conscious effort to be early this morning, which was an ongoing battle for me.

At that moment floods people swarmed into the classroom. I grew nervous, hoping that I could find a friend from class. Each time someone walked past my seat I flashed them a smile but they'd walk off to find somewhere else to sit.

I tried not to let the rejection get to me but I couldn't help but feel a little disheartened.

Then it was as if god had heard all my late night ramblings about wanting a friend, as a girl with vibrant blue and purple hair hovered over the seat next to me. She looked like a Rockstar.

"Is this seat taken?" The angel asked.

I was stunned into silence for a moment. A friend! Omg a friend! My subconscious was screaming.

"Erm hello?" The voice sounded again. Still I was silent, she turned to walk away.

"NO!" Almost everyone stopped to look at the commotion. "No, this seat isn't taken," I beamed. If she didn't think I was weird before, she definitely did now.

The girl looked slightly weirded out but sat down anyway. Then the door burst open and a man stepped through. From his attire I'm guessing he's our teacher, which sucks because now I can't openly speak to the girl. But I won't let that deter me. My mission was to make a friend today.

"Hi!" The girl side eyed me.

"I'm Elza," I held my hand out for her to shake. That's what people do when they introduced themselves right?

"Harley," she shook my hand.

"I love your hair! I'd love to dye mine someday," I said, whilst looking down and picking up a strand of my own.
