"What have you never seen a hamburger before?" Christina asked Tris after watching her tentatively take one form the dish.

"No, I've.. Ive seen one. I just have never eaten one" She replied uncomfortably. "Abnegation eat plain food" A boy said while eating his own.

"Plant based diet with no sauces and a minimum seasoning" He explained. "Which textbook did you swallow?" Christina chuckles at him.

"Nice to meet you too. I'm Will. Erudite" He introduced himself. He should drop the Erudite though. He is Dauntless now.

"Of course you are" Christina says and Tris smiles as well. Liz just keeps her head down and eats her food.

"No offence, but i'm surprised Abnegation even eats at all. Too selfish right? No wonder you left" Christina said. Liz almost wanted to tell her to take the 'no offence' off that sentence.

"You gotta be pretty self-confident to be friends with a Candor" Will teased.

"What is that supposed to mean?" Christina exclaimed, evidently offended. "You have no filter. You say the first thing that comes into your head" Will said still smiling at her.

They would make a cute couple.

"You mean like, 'you're an idiot'?" Al jumped into the conversation

"Nice one Al. At least we tell the truth" Christina said. "Erudite can tell the truth cause we have the facts" Will reflected.

"I don't wanna hear about your old factions. You're Dauntless now" Four said, obviously just as fed up with the conversation as Liz was.

Curiosity getting the better of her, Tris asked "We're you a transfer too? Or Dauntless born?" It made Liz internally cringe.

"Are you kidding?" Four asked obviously astounded at the fact she dared talk to him. "No" Tris replied.

"What makes you think you can talk to me?" He asked, making Tris freeze with wide eyes.

"Must be cause you're so approachable" Liz butted having had enough of them talking over her head. Both of their eyes snapped to her and while the others at the table laughed quietly Four only narrowed his eyes turning away to murmur "Careful"

A guy came over to the table to talk to four and all the others at the table turned to Liz. "You, have a death wish" Christina said.

"You know he was first in his class. They tried to recruit him for leadership twice but he said no" Will whispered to them.

While Liz found it kind of creepy that he knew that, she also admired Four for it. The government is shit, good for him for refusing it.

There was an alarm sound that rang through the room and made all the others in the room start banging their cups on the tables. Really all it did was give Liz the start of a migraine.

The Dauntless leader stood on a platform above the canteen and commanded the initiates to stand.

Liz stood up with the others while the leader started his speech "You have chosen to join the warrior faction. Tasked with defence of this city and all its inhabitants. We believe in ordinary acts of bravery and the courage that drives one person to stand up for another"

"Respect that. Do us proud" He finished.

Everyone cheered for the initiates as they started to lift them all and pass them around. Liz declined anyone that tried to lift her in the air and walked out of the room.

Unbeknownst to her, Four had watched her go with a small smirk on his face.

Liz woke up suddenly to the sound of clanking metal. She turned to the stairs that lead out of the dorm to see Four there "I want everyone in the pit. Two minutes" He said.

Liz groaned and started to get out of bed which made Four smirk at her. She only glared at him sleepily in return.

After all of them had dressed they made their way into the pit. Four walked up to them when they arrived and started to talk "There are two stages of training. The first is physical. Push your bodies to the breaking point and you'll master the methods of combat" He explained.

"The second is mental. Again, breaking point. You'll face your worst fears and conquer them, unless they get you first" This part scared Liz.

She knew exactly what her worst fear was.

"You'll be trained separately from the Dauntless-born, but you'll be ranked together. After initiations rankings will determine what jobs you move into" He said.

"Leadership, guarding the fence, or keeping the factionless from killing each other" He said.

"The rankings will also determine who gets cut" Eric cut in.

Liz knew that they weren't told about that, but it honestly wouldn't have changed her choice. She had decided she would be dauntless when she was 10 years old. That was not going to change because of a slight obstacle.

Evidently, the others did not feel the same way. "Cut?" Christina asked.

"At the end of each stage of training, the lowest ranking initiates will be leaving us" Eric explained.

"To do what?" Al asked. "Well there's no going home to your families, so you'd live factionless"

This obviously made all the initiates start shitting bricks as Al came out with "Why didn't we know that?"

"It's a new rule" Eric said with a manic glint in his eye.

"A new rule? Somebody should have told us that" Christina said. "Why? Would you have chosen differently? Out of fear? I mean if that's the case then you might as well get out now" Eric said.

"If you're really one of us, it won't matter to you that you might fail. You chose us. Now we get to choose you" Eric said ominously.

That's just lovely
