Warning: violence, gore

"Help!"

A shout resonated from the forest, making Joshua jump out of his skin. It was a female voice, desperate yet scratchy, faint yet strong.

"Who's there?" Joshua yelled back in response. All he had wanted today was a calm walk in the forest after a grueling school day, but no.

"HELP!" Again, but on the edge of breaking down.

Without thinking, Joshua began to move toward the voice. Someone could be in danger. He jogged, the speed slowly increasing into a run as the pleading became more and more frenzied. He barely realized how far he had run into the forest, the outside light of the outskirts fading as he sprinted towards the heart of the circle of trees. Fog began to peek through the tree trunks.

Suddenly, he halted. He had arrived at a clearing, and the sight that beheld him was astonishing. He froze in utter shock.

A young girl with a pale complexion laid on the ground, face turned away from Joshua. Her hair was white as snow, an unnatural color, and her skin was too smooth to be real. She had cuts littered all over her, and she was in a fetal position, whimpering in pain. Her thin, long dress was black, but it was so sheer that it looked gray, brushing at her feet.

"Um, miss, are you okay?" Joshua asked tentatively, inching forward.

Suddenly, the girl snapped up and faced him. Her face was distorted and dripping with blood, her large and wide eyes tearing a green liquid that made Joshua's skin crawl. She screeched inhumanely and shrilly, her teeth pearly and razor-sharp. She lunged at him, knocking the boy to his feet as her clawed hands attempted to grab his ankles.

Without a second thought, Joshua scrambled up and ran as fast as he could to get away from this horrid creature.

An ear-wrenching scream was heard behind him, the monster most certainly chasing him. He dared to look behind him, but that was the worst decision he could have made. She wasn't chasing him, but was rather right behind him as if waiting for him to turn around.

He halted, the creature's eyes suddenly entrancing him. The green tears were gone, and he could now see the gorgeous red irises circling the round black pupils.

"Let me see you," she said mesmerizingly.

Joshua looked deep into her eyes, breathing becoming steadier and body becoming still as his adrenaline faded. She stepped closer to him.

Closer.

Closer. Joshua didn't notice his peripheral vision blurring into a hazy brown fog, nor the gentle peck she gave him on his lips, nor the blood that she stole from that.

Suddenly, Joshua saw white, and he was staring at himself, the previous monster now gone.

"Thank you for your body," his doppelganger told him with a creepy smile, before slashing his throat.
