Part four:

The needle pierces her skin, the nib retracting and re-embedding itself into her lip swiftly as I try to twist it and unknot the stitching her grandmother had did to her earlier that day

The needle pierces her skin, the nib retracting and re-embedding itself into her lip swiftly as I try to twist it and unknot the stitching her grandmother had did to her earlier that day. After her breakfast and last meal of the day.

Blood coats the beige strands that had been cording her two sore, plump lips together.

Never again, I vow. Never again will Drystan suffer through this pain. Never again will she suffer from her Grandmother's barbaric ways.

The sound of my needle puncturing her skin makes me shuffer, it is as if a worm was swishing through a puddle as swords came down upon it, crushing it to shreds.

Drystan stirs, a low groan or discomfort entering her now semi-parted lips. I lean my head against the black painted brick that stands adjacent to the bed she now lays upon. My eyes close as I feel the cold trail of sweat as it falls from my forehead.

I shudder; I have never been uneasy before. Never been unsolicited in my peruits of harm, yet the mere thought of harming Drystan and all of a sudden I am shuddering like I am a child and just made my first kill.

How quaint of me, indeed. I scowl at my wayward thoughts, twirling my needle in my hand and gently taking Drystan's chin into my hands, turning her face towards me. Her shut eyes shift beneath her eyelids...

I try not to think about it as I drive my tool into her lip and twist, hearing the gruesome twist of flesh as I undo the final string.

It squiggles out of her lip, blood pouring from the new wound. I stare at the beads of blood, and shudder again, curling my legs up under me as I hurl the needle across the room.

Shit! That could be a safety hazard for my dearest Drystan's feet.

I knew that she would get a few more powers from her father, I just was not sure shapeshifting was one. Earlier, she turned her hands into beating hearts and her arms into sticks, her latest was when she turned her Bubak stick to Faerie legs. Smooth, strong legs. If only her father could see her, he would be so proud. If only Drystan knew the power she wields, but now that she is in my lair...

Under MY protection and supervisory, I guess I can show her the truth.

I lay down beside her, watching as her blood trails down her lips and onto her chin, a fountain of green. She stirs again, and I sigh, combing my fingers through her hair. That sleeping bomb that girl threw at her earlier knocked Drystan out good.

I sneer at the memory of the smoke rising, of Drystan slowly drifting off. I do not care if Drystan has a blood oath with her, I will get payback for that little setback.

But then again, I can thank her. She gave me an excuse to take Drystan to my lair. To get her away from her grandmother.

It seems she is out so deep that she has unlocked more powers.

Powers she inherited.

From somebody hiding, the true coward.

If only I could teach her how to use her powers...

She would become unstoppable. Undefeatable. Invincible.

Glorious in all of her endeavors.

A Queen of her own right, never overshadowed by tradition and her families prospects. A light in this dark world.

She twists again in the center of my bed, the red sheets encasing her dropping a little and exposing a few inches of skin seeable from her guards uniform.

I lean back against the wall, keeping my distance.

No matter the temptation.

"No." She whimpers in her sleep, and my body locks. "Do not leave me-"

I stare at her, at her kips now forming the words she hasn't uttered siunce she was young. Words that I only heard from her mind once. "Do not leave me alone."

I want to scream then and there.

"Phobos," When she says my name it is breathless. "No," She thrashes and I realise it is not only a sad dream but a nightmare.

I am the reason for her nightmares.

"Hey," I jump over the bed to help, my thighs cradling her newly-formed legs, my hands smoothing her hair back. "Do not let your clan overtake you, my little Queen of Nightmares."

Her eyes open, the mesmerizing crescent and full moon threatening me to drown in their darkness.

"Phobos?" She utters and then her eyes go wide. She covers her mouth and then cringes at the feel of her blood coating her fingertips.

I brace myself for the inevitable.

Yet I still cringe when she screams.
