"We should be going," Chanqze said before going inside alone.

...

Everyone thought that these were just memories showing, but they were also some of Wei Wuxian's old dreams as well.

Lan Xichen snickered, when he saw his brother's ears turn pale pink. Wei Wuxian was actually so cute as a child.

Others cooed at the screen seeing Wei Wuxian so young, "you look so cute," Lan Wangji teased.

Wei Wuxian buried his face into Wangji's chest to hide his flushed cheeks and shyness

...

"Mama, please don't go?" Little Wei Wuxian asked looking up at Cangse Sanren. She crouched down, she tucked a lock of hair behind his ear.

"I'm sorry baby, but Mama and Papa have to go night hunting," The change in him was almost dramatic.

He went from smiley and dry eyed to a full blown out tantrum in less than a second. To say that Cangse Sanren was bewildered would be a an understatement. She sighed heavily and cupped his face and turned it up to hers.

"A'Ying, I'm really sorry. But I will bring some candy so don't cry, okay?" she soothed wiping away his tears now that his sobs were merely hiccups.

She then tried to tug the stolen items which turned out to be a red ribbon and comb from him but he resisted. She gave up.

"A'Ying, can you promise me something?" He nodded vigorously. She chuckled.

"Then promise, Mama that you'll always stay strong and will never cry in front of anyone who isn't family?" He bended his little fingers to a swearing sign and smiled wide, showing his baby teeth.

"A'Ying promises!". She picked him up and gave him to Changze.

They went inside and layed him in the little cot inside. Then the couple kissed and cuddled with him until he slept after which they left. Then the memory went dark.

...

Everyone in the room was dumbfounded.

"Don't cry in front of anyone who isn't family?" Lan Xichen asked.

Cangse Sanren didn't know that it will be the last time he sees them. Those who knew Wei Ying closer understood why no one ,except Jiang Yanli, saw him cry before. Lan Wangji was one of those people that has seen Wei Wuxian cry, but it took a long time to get Wei Wuxian to open up to him.

...

Wei Wuxian is searching for his parents who didn't turn up yesterday. He roamed the streets, weaving through many legs and carts, eyes roaming over unknown faces when he caught sight of a cart selling meat buns. His stomach growled, reminding him that he was hungry. He ran to the man selling them.

"Can I have one?" He asked but the man barely glanced at him.

"No!"

Wei Wuxian didn't cry. There was no point in crying. He just went away, Asking other vendors the same question only to be rebuffed. No one ever gave him anything.

***

"Grrrrrr."

"Please.. please go- Go away!"

Wei Wuxian was crouching on the ground, swinging a stick at the five huge dogs surrounding him. He was holding on to a piece of bread he probably found somewhere, thrown away.
