Chapter Twelve

The next morning had come around and I had a ragging headache. My head was pounding and I rolled over in my bed as I was getting a call from someone.

I picked up my phone. "Hello?"

"There's the sound of my girl's beautiful voice," I heard Steve's cheerful voice. "I'm picking you up in 15, is that okay?"

"Ugh, whatever," I grumble.

"That's the spirit!" Steve faked cheers. "How's Jun feeling?"

"Jun's feeling like shit. I should've tacti last night." I sighed out, absolutely greeting not tacting.

"Awe, my poor baby," He cooed. "How about I get you some sprite and a snack too?"

My mood lightened up some more. "Really? You'd do that?" My cure for a hangover is a sprite. That's all you need. And Steve knows that.

"Of course, I'll be 20 minutes." He hangs up and that's what got me motivated, not to see Steve, but the things he's going to bring me.

I got ready, putting on a skirt and a turtle neck along with some heels. I put on some light makeup and my Dad knocked on the door. "Come in." I chirped, and he opens it up.

"Eggos are ready," Dad tells me. "For someone who's a hangover, you look alright."

"That's because I didn't drink." I lied, applying lipgloss on my lips. "How's El feeling?"

"I don't know, she hasn't come out of her room yet." Dad shrugged. "I think I messed up."

"Well, you were a few hours late for that movie marathon you promised her." I reminded him. "And you even stole some kid's candy. What kind of man does that?"

"Don't patronise me." Dad scowled. "You think you can speak a few words to her? She seems to listen to you more than she does me."

"I'll be out in a second," I tell Dad and he shuts the door behind him. After a few seconds, I walked out and towards El's door. I knocked on the door. "El? It's me, Juno. I heard Dad made some eggos... It looks pretty big." I glanced over at the table as Dad sits alone. "Dad and I will sit alone, getting fat. Surely you want to help?" There was no response from her. "Okay, but, don't complain to me when I eat it all."

I walked over to the table and sat at my spot. "You think she'll come out?" Dad asked.

"I—" Suddenly, the door cracks open and we both looked over. El is standing there by the door, eyeing us, then eyeing the eggos. It was covered in whip cream and M&Ms, even got chocolate sauce on it. She walked over ot us and Dad and I give each other a smile. "Dad—She's alive."

He chuckles as he cuts in as El sits down. He splits it three-way. El takes a bite. "Hmm!" Dad hums as he takes a bite. "Good, right? Know the great thing about it? It's only 8,000 calories." I cracked a smile while El just stares at him. I take a bite of this masterpiece. Dad drops his gaze. "You visited him last night?"

What El does every night is with her powers, she uses them to see Mike. El looked at the table. "He says he needs me."

"Want me to check on him?" Dad offered gently. She shakes her head.

I then noticed the time on the wall. "Oh, shit. My rides here. I gotta bounce." I got up and sling my backpack over my shoulder. I kissed El's forehead. "I love you guys! Don't kill each other!" I raced out of the house, shuddering as the cold hits me and made my way down the leafy path.

︾

With my Sprite in my hand, I walk down the hallways of fairly busy students. I was looking through notes on history, and it was doing my head in. Where's Nancy when I need her? I still haven't talked to Nancy, however, and we didn't pick her up today from her house. Usually, gets picked up by us but not today. I'm not on talking turns with her.

I heard the squeaking of shoes down the hallway and I looked up, seeing Nancy walking over towards me with an angrily look. "Juno." She hisses, looking rather furious at me.

"Oh, hi Princess," I say, walking past her and she pulled me by the elbow.

"Where the hell were you and Steve? I woke up late this morning because of you guys." Nancy exclaimed quietly and I turned to her. "I missed first period."

"Maybe you shouldn't rely on us next time, Nance." I raised an eyebrow. "Maybe you should've caught a ride with your new best friend, Jonathan."

"What are you talking about?" Nancy asked. "You're my best friend."

"Jesus, you need to learn how to control your alcohol, Nancy," I tell her, shaking my head. "Uh... You remember going to Tina's party last night?"

"Yes." Nancy quietly said.

"And then what?" I quizzed her, crossing my arms.

"I remember dancing with you, and that guy Billy coming up to us, then..." She shrugs. "Spilling some punch. You got mad at me because I was drunk... And then you and Steve took me home."

"No, see, that's where your mind gets a little bit fuzzy," I waved to her head. "That was your other best friend, Jonathan. That was Jonathan."

"I don't understand." Nancy gave me a confused look.

"It's pretty simple, Nancy. You were just telling it like it is." I spat, huffing.

"What?" Nancy hisses.

"Uh..." I looked up a second before looking at her. "Apparently, uh... We killed Barb and I don't care 'cause I'm bullshit. Our friendship is bullshit. And that I'm a fake friend. I mean, pretty much everything is just bullshit, bullshit, and bullshit..."

"I was drunk, Juno," Nancy stresses. "I don't remember any of that."

"So that makes everything you said... It's what? Just bullshit, too?" I raised my eyebrow feeling completely fired up about her.

"Yes."

"Well, then tell me." I cried out.

"Tell you what?" Nancy places her hands on her head. "Oh, my God, Juno, tell me what?"

"Our friendships is real. We're best friends." I stammer out and her mouth dropped.

"That's—you're upset about a drunk thing I said?" Nancy's eyes widen. "Oh, my God, Juno when will you grow up—"

"When you tell me we're best friends and everything is fine!" I cut her off and I noticed some staring in the hallways. She just stares at me in disbelief. And that was my answer, which made my heart sink. "I think you're bullshit." And I stormed off.
