Chapter Twenty-Two

"And I'm back with some Burger King," I tell the two as I brought them some brunch. Steve and Robin's eyes lit up as they saw the bag of food the very next day. It's the least I could with hanging out with them so much. I've basically been there all summer, and I wonder how they haven't gotten sick of me yet.

"Yes!" Robin cried out and we all went to the break room to have our feed. Once we did that, Robin goes back to her work and Steve and I are just chucking fries into our mouths.

"I got it that time!" I cheered and so does Steve and I throw a fry into his mouth, which is misses. "Huh! Loser!"

"Is he here?" I heard a familiar voice at the front of the counter and I smiled. Steve gives me a grin and runs towards the front doors and swings them wide open.

"Henderson!" He yelled throwing his arms up in the air. "He's back! He's back!" Steve exclaimed as Dustin cheered, laughing.

"I'm back!" Dustin claims. "You got the job!"

"I got the job!" Steve imitates a trumpet noise sound and they do a complicated handshake which made me smile.

"How many children are you friends with?" Robin asked, smirking. Steve just hand gestures towards Robin and I walked over to Dustin who grinned at me.

"Juno!" He says just as excitedly, running up to me and giving me a hug. I hugged him back tightly.

"Hello, my little weird friend," I tell him. "I like your hat."

He grins. "Cool, right? I got it from camp."

"Very cool." I nodded. "Come! Let's get some ice cream and talk about your summer."

"Yes! Okay." As Robin serves up some ice cream, we then walked over to an empty booth and Dustin began to tell us about his so-called girlfriend called Suzie with a z. I was surprised, at first, but the more he talked about the less convinced I became.

"No. No way." Steve shakes his head. "Hotter than Phoebe Cates? No."

"Hmm-hmm." Dustin nodded as he digs into his ice cream. "Brilliant, too. And she doesn't even care that my real pearls are still coming in. She says kissing is better without teeth."

I frowned at that. I personally disagree. I could tell Steve was struggling to maintain a nutueral face for Dustin. "Wow. Yeah, that's great. Proud of you, man. That's ro—That's kinda romantic."  Steve tells him.

"Good job, Dustin," I say to him, and he gives me a grin.

"So do you really just get to eat as much of this as you want?" Dustin asked, amazed.

"Yeah. I mean, sure." Steve shrugged. "It's not a really great idea for me, though. Gotta keep in shape for Juno." He gives me a wink. "So, I give all my free ice cream to her. Lord knows she's in it when she's in a mood."

"Hey!" I slapped Steve's shoulder. "That's rude."

"Yeah, and how's that working out for you?" Robin questioned from aside, who was cleaning tables. She gives me a small smirk.

"Ignore her." Steve rolled his eyes.

"She seems cool," Dustin tells us.

"She's not." Steve swiftly comments. "So, where are the other knuckleheads?"

"They ditched me yesterday," Dustin confessed.

"No," Steve says, sadness in his eyes and I found that rather adorable.

"My first day back." Dustin began. "Can you believe this shit?"

"Woah, seriously?" I asked, a little dumbfounded that the party would ditch Dustin on his first day back.
