Chapter Fourteen

In the morning, the three of us had devised a plan. Steve had brought a shit tone of meat and we're at the start of the forest trail and we were gonna head out towards the junkyard area and lore Dart there. Dart was always hungry, according to Dustin, so it made the scene to lead him there with chunks of meat.

With a bucket and gloves in my hands, I picked up the bucket. It was decently heavy, too. A gas can was placed on the ground.

"Dustin!" A small voice was heard through Dustin's hat radio as the boys also got ready. "This is Lucas. Do you copy? Dustin?"

"Well, well, well," Dustin spoke. "Look who it is."

"Sorry, man." Lucas apologised. "My stupid sister turned it off."

"Well, when you were having sister problems, Dart grew again, he escaped and I'm pretty sure he's a baby Demogorgon." Dustin filled Lucas in.

"Wait. What?" Lucas questioned.

"I'll explain later," Dustin tells him. "Just meet me, Steve, and Juno at the old junkyard."

"Steve? Juno?" Lucas asked.

"And bring your binoculars and wrist rocket," Dustin added.

"Steve Harrington and Juno Hopper?"

"All right, let's go." Steve shuts the boot of his car, turning to Dustin and I.

"Just be there, stat," Dustin said. "Over and out."

We were about an hour into walking down the train tracks in the woods and I was in the middle of Steve and Dustin. Steve began to give advice to Dustin about girls, which made me throw meat down aggressively.

"All right, so let me get this straight." Steve began as Dustin was explaining the crush he has on this girl. "You kept something you knew was probably dangerous in order to impress a girl who... Who you just met?"

"All right, that's grossly oversimplifying things." Dustin rolled his eyes as we continued to walk down the tracks.

"I mean, why would a girl like some nasty slug anyway?" Steve asked and I shivered at the thought.

"Well, Juno, do you wanna see an interdimensional slug?" Dustin turned to me, walking backwards.

"If I had a chose, I wouldn't be here right now." I gestured around, throwing another slab of meat onto the ground.

"Why not? It's awesome." Dustin boasted.

"Well, even if she thought it was cool, which she didn't, I... I just..." Steve clicks his tongue. "I don't know. I just feel like you're trying way too hard."

"Well, not everyone can have your perfect hair, all right?" Dustin grumbled.

"It's not about the hair, man." Steve rolled his eyes. "The key to the girls is just..." He glanced at me before looking back at Dustin. "Just acting like you don't care."

"Even if you do?" Dustin asked and I looked at them in disbelief.

"Yeah, exactly. It drives them nuts. That's how I got Juno." Steve winked over at me.

"That's not true!" I denied.

"Then what?" Dustin ignored me, looking over at Steve.

"You just wait until, uh..." Steve looked around as if he was letting him in on this big secret. "Until you feel it."

"Feel what?" Dustin asked.

"It's like before it's gonna storm, you know?" Steve asked. "You can't see it, but you can feel it, like this, uh... electricity, you know?"
