"You and this bloke are going to go right in the middle of the pacific ocean, get in this submarine, and go to the lost city of R'lyeh?" a man asked as he took a swig of rum.
"Yes, I'm-" you started.
"I know who you are. And I'll do it, it will be a suicide mission for you two, but it'll be a story to tell my grandchildren," he told you.
"And you'll be paid handsomely," you added.
"And that. I'll have my men prepare provisions and such, as well as a loading area for your... what was it called?" the captain asked.
"Submarine," Otto told him.
"This one's going to get eaten alive, are you sure you want him on board?" the captain asked you.
"I just said one thing-"
"Doctor Octavius is perfectly capable of taking care of himself, as I am as well. We came to you because of your stellar reputation, was that a mistake?" You ask, hoping to appeal to his ego.
"No, no it was not. When will this... submarine be ready?" the man asked Otto.
"In two months," Otto answered.
"Well then Miss-"
"Doctor." you corrected him, you fought tooth and nail to get that title.
"Doctor L/N. I will see you two in two months." you shook his hand and got up, you strode out of the tavern, Otto following behind you.
"Did you really mean what you said back there?" Otto asked.
"Hm?" you stopped to let him catch up.
"About me being able to handle myself?" Otto asked.
"Of course I did, you're so confident when you lead your team to build-"
"Because I know what I'm doing, but this? I know nothing about this."
"Well, then let me teach you. I can show you some simple stun moves, disarming techniques, as well as some Latin, that should be what they speak if there is anyone living in the lost city."
"Do you really think that there could still be life there?" Otto asked.
"Well the Icelandic text claims that the lost city is submerged underwater, but it is buried in such a way that the city is untouched, dry, and habitable... And the Mayans claim that there is a hidden passage that leads to an air pocket, then by going left through the cave system, you will find the lost city." You explained.
"It is extremely surreal that all of these different cultures are all connected by R'lyeh," Otto muttered.
"And it isn't a coincidence, which is why we're going." you opened the door to Otto's workshop and you both went inside, Ottos team of engineers and mechanics were working on the submarine.
"In a month I should be able to show you the mechanics, teach you how to use the submarine," he said as he put on his goggles.
"Ok, could I teach you some things tomorrow night?" you ask.
"I-I'd like that very much." Otto smiled, you smiled back as you left.
Your night was uneventful, you studied Latin, and read several books before you finally decided to go to bed.
"You must always keep your arms up like this, no Otto, like this," you instructed him.
"I am doing that!" Otto argued.
"No you're not!" one of his workers yelled.
"Get back to work!" you both yelled back.
Eventually, Otto got the hang of it, and with that, you saw his confidence grow.
