Your breath caught in your throat as you and Otto stepped out of the caves into a towering, haunting city.
"Is this..." Otto trailed off.
"R'lyeh." you finished.
"Veni mecum ad thalamum." Come with me to the chamber. The figure told you.
"It's taking us to 'the chamber'" you explained.
"What does it mean by that?" Otto asked nervously.
"I don't know, the texts only described how to get to R'Lyeh, they never said what it was like-"
"...or how to get back."
"We should be able to use the tunnels again... right?"
"I don't want to go back into those tunnels."
"Me neither, but it might be our only choice."
"Maybe they're nice? I mean if they call us holy that must mean that they worship us in some sense." Otto hopefully reasoned.
"Maybe..." you muttered as you look around, the lost city was huge and you couldn't help but nerd out over it, you could tell that despite how scared Otto was, he was doing the same thing.
"Do you see those?" you pointed to engravings on one of the buildings, Otto's face lit up.
"Mesopotamia?" he asked.
You nodded, how was Mesopotamia-
"Advenimus, princeps noster honoratissime, ut te recipias ad R'Lyeh." We have arrived, and our leader is honored to welcome you to R'lyeh. The figure stopped at a large building, you heard voices on the other side, Otto took your hand again, it was sweaty, yours was sweaty too so you felt like they canceled each other out. The figure swung open the doors and you were both escorted inside, a large fish creature sat on a throne made of bones, it stood up and kneeled before you two, you both glanced at each other awkwardly. You looked back at the fish creature and gasped.
"A deep one..." you muttered, you looked around the large room and found even more deep ones in the crowd of onlookers. You haven't encountered one in a long, long time.
"I thought they were extinct?"
"They should-"
"I understand that you may seem confused, oh holy ones." the creature boomed in a deep voice, you both froze.
"You can understand us?" you asked.
The creature nodded, still not getting up.
"...you can stand up?" Otto finally said.
"I understand that you both must be confused oh holy ones, but everything will be explained in two days."
"What happens in two days?" you asked.
"The unity!" he announced.
"The unity!" the crowd echoed.
You and Otto looked at each other uneasily.
"...The unity?" Otto raised an eyebrow.
"Where you two will unify and our gods will return!" he declared.
"That makes sense," you said sarcastically.
"I do wish that we could discuss this... unity more in-depth but I am incredibly tired." Otto started, you nodded quickly.
"Yes, yes I am as well! Our journey was... eventful." you shuddered at the memory.
"Of course, of course. We are all honored to serve you both, please, follow me." he walked through the crowd, which parted to allow you three to pass. Otto took your hand, neither of you liked the looks the crowd was giving you. But you both didn't say anything until you were somewhere private.
"These are your quarters, if either of you requires anything, please do not hesitate to ask, we are all at your disposal." he gave a deep bow as he left. You gave an awkward thumbs up.
"This is weird, right?" Otto muttered.
"Oh yes, this is incredibly weird. It's very..."
"Culty?"
You nodded as you opened the door, you gave a tired laugh.
"What is it-" Otto started before his eyes landed on the singular bed, he sighed. "Again?" he asked.
"I'm too tired to care," you grumbled as you collapsed onto the bed, it was surprisingly soft... Otto lay down next to you, staring up at the ceiling.
"So... this is the lost city of R'lyeh." he sighed.
"Apparently." you huffed.
"...It wasn't what I was expecting," he admitted.
You both stared up in silence.
"What do you think this unity thing is?" he asked.
"I've never heard of it, it was never in any artifact I uncovered."
"I don't like any of this."
"Me neither... But we need rest, we can worry about this unity thing tomorrow." you closed your eyes and immediately fell asleep.
Otto couldn't, he was too worried. He had no idea how you could fall asleep right now, and he was also scared to fall asleep. He didn't want to wake up, covered in blood, with no idea what happened.
"Vocat ad me..." you mumbled.
"Y/N?" Otto asked, turning to look at you, he yelped as he fell off of the bed.
Your eyes were glowing.
