With my car in park, I look at my salon. The girls are already here and have it open. Honestly, I never expected Bethany to come in today either everything yesterday. Chasity has been such an amazing friend since I hired her on and seems like we have known her just as long as I have with Bethany.
Chasity stayed with Bethany last night and I couldn't be anymore grateful for that because while I had Zack, Bethany didn't have anyone to stay with her. I never thought my life could be this full another new best friend with Chasity and then to meet Zack in granted the worst way but made us closer all at the same time.
This morning there was minimum pain between my legs letting me know just what I shared with Zack and I wouldn't take it back. The way he cared for me after made it the cherry on top, after our time rolling in the sheets he drew a bath and we soaked together with gentle touches shared. Getting a amazing night of sleep despite everything because I knew I am safe in his embrace.
My hands shake a little before I get out of my car, I take a deep breath.
He is behind bars now.
Releasing my breath, I get out of the car. Out of habit now, I look around me as I walk into the salon doors. The fresh scents of hairspray and shampoo welcomes me and calms me farther. Currently no clients are in the chairs but Chasity sweeping up lets me know one just left happy.
"Athena!" Bethany scares me slightly when she yells my name and jumps from her chair.
Not a minute later I am about bowled over as Bethany wraps her arms around me without coming to a stop.
The air is pushed from my lungs with the tight hold she has on me, but I say nothing when I can feel wetness on my arm from her tears. Slowly, we sit on the floor with her still holding me tight and sobbing. My own tears form in my eyes and fight to keep them from falling, because we will have a crying fest if I start.
"I'm so sorry. I am so sorry Athena." Bethany stutter and hiccups between sobs.
"It is not your fault Beth and I don't blame you at all. You can't blame yourself for what he done." My voice strains along with fighting more tears.
My friend should never be feeling this way and I know without a doubt she was clueless. Dason is such a sick guy for all of this. There was countless times the red flags were there and none of us thought they were, because we believed his lies about being at work for all these years.
Chasity walks over with some wet rags and bends down to us. I help Bethany get up off the ground and grimace myself, with the sweet pain.
Chasity looks at me funny but doesn't say anything.
"She was like this all night." Chasity whispers, before helping blot Bethany's eyes.
"Thank you for staying with her last night." I hug Chasity, as Bethany catches her breath.
"The other Detective came by and went through the place too. He found several things in the closet. Athena, there was items there right in the bedroom in his closet I knew never about because I tried to always respect his privacy and never looked." Bethany breathes slowly.
"None of us knew Beth. The only thing to do now is try to move on from it so he can't still win."
"I agree with Athena. Between my brother and Brit he won't be getting out from behind bars." Chasity nods.
"Brit is kind of cute. I thought that before everything happened." Bethany laughs.
I am grateful to hear that sound again from her. Sometime we just need a good cry and then back to almost normal.
"Plus not to mention, I am sure Brit could please a woman unlike butthole." I snicker.
"What!" Chasity laughs.
"Yesterday when he had me pressed against him, he actually got excited downstairs when the reporters showed up. The only thing my mind thought of was, 'Well no wonder Bethany has talked about going back to one night stands.' Even in the awful position leave it to the subconscious to throw something in random." I laugh.
Bethany and Chasity both held their stomachs laughing.
Once we come back down from the laughter a thought hits me. It seems like the girls know something is in my mind.
"It may sound crazy and just tell me if it is or not. What if I find where the last victim moved too? I know it was seven years ago but she got away and could still be living in fear. The least I want to do is tell her that he was caught."
"I think that is a good idea Athena." Bethany gives me a sad smile.
"Could always talk to Zack? I am sure they may know where she moved too or at least how to find her." Chasity offers.
I take my phone out and send a quick message to Zack. Getting his reply was almost instant with him saying that he will contact her and inform her that Dason is behind bars.
A small bit of happiness rushes through me but also some sadness. The last thing I want is for the woman to have to relive it but at the same time she needs to know he has been caught. That way if she is living in fear, she won't have to anymore.
Within no time my station is set up and I wait on some clients to walk in. This is another thing I need to run my fingers through some hair to help me get back to me. Or well as close as I can because having a gun to my head has changed me some, if anything it made me realize how short life can be and I don't want to waste one minute of it.
All I want is to be around the people I cherish in my life and love.
