This is horrifying hearing everything that Molly went through and for the lawyer to just sit there acting like it is no big deal. How can someone even still defend a person like Dason?
Dason just sits there the entire time like we are inferior to him. It makes my stomach churn and bile rise in my throat. The palms of my hands are sweating so badly and there is nothing I can do. I don't even want to be here seeing him. Let alone how myself, Bethany, or even Molly have to remember everything that has happened just to be questioned like it's not true.
"Next to come to the witness stand is a Athena Greg." An Officer calls out.
My heart drops. I am not ready for this but I don't think I ever will be. Slowly, I stand from the bench and walk up to the chair. My eyes meets Zack's before a brief moment and it helps to give me strength. Gaperal steps up and reads the oath to me that I have to repeat.
"Prosecutor, you may proceed." The Judge announces and I breath a small relief that at least Gills goes first before the laywer.
"You were the last victim of Mr. Sturps correct?"
"Yes."
"That is because he held you at gunpoint until he was taken down for the arrest."
"That is correct."
"Did he taunt you by calling and texting?"
"Yes. It started just a few weeks before the gunpoint."
"It is my understanding that in between when this first started up until his arrest he done other things to you? Would you describe it out for us?"
I go about describing it all, half way expecting the lawyer to say something but he never does. Part of me is thankful but the other half is wondering what he will do once he starts his questioning.
"Now with all of that we would be up to the point of him having you hostage by gun. When he approached you in the parking lot did you suspect that he had that intentions?"
"No, I didn't. Not at first, but then it seemed like he was in a hurry. Not much made sense until he had me against him and a gun to my head."
"Nothing further." Gills states before sitting down.
"Could you say that Mr. Sturps was nervous when he approached you in the parking lot?" The lawyer stands and starts.
"In a way, but it just seemed like he was also mad."
"Are you a therapist of any kind or had schooling to be one?"
My eyes furrow. "No." I am confused where this is going.
"So it is safe to say that you can't just read emotions of someone. How could you claim how he seemed to have been?"
"Just based off his body language and the way he spoke."
"Had you ever spent time with him before all of this started?"
"Not alone no. There was a handful of times over the last few years I seen him and spoke with him barely, because he was my best friends boyfriend."
"Once again then you don't know him. How can someone you don't know tell you by body language how he may be feeling?"
"I think the gun to my head is the obvious answer to that." I try to remain calm, but I am shaking on the inside.
"Could that have been something you started though?"
"No, I was simply trying to get to my car after shopping and he just appeared."
"During all of this did your 'friend' ever know or seem different?"
"Never once was she different with me."
"So you think he acted alone?"
"Yes, I do whole heartedly."
"Could you say by the times you have talked with him he may have seemed like he had some form of mental problem or slowness?"
"Not in the least. Anytime he did talk it was plain and open, but not like before he held me at gunpoint."
"There could have been something that changed. Hit to the head anything. Did you ever think to get him medical help? That this couldn't have been him actually doing the actions to you?"
"I had asked him to just talk to me because I didn't know what was happpening. Never once did it not make sense on what he said, the only things that clued me in was him demanding me not to call my friend and at the time his girlfriend by her name." I try to control my breathing.
"So you tried to talk to him and not even run?"
"At the time, I didn't know he was the one doing everything to me. So of course I tried to talk to him, before I took some steps away from him when I could tell by his words he was mad."
"All of the actions are also on recordings, Your honor." Gills speaks up.
"Please bring it in." The judge states.
A screen is set up and we all watch the entire event. It is just as scary as the first time. Every word could be heard from one of the cameras that was stationed on a light pole just above where we were.
The lawyer huffs. "Nothing more." Before he sits down.
I am allowed to leave the chair and I make a dash back to where Bethany and Molly are sitting. I hold their hands and keep reminding myself to breath, I am not going to cry here not with him able to just look over and see. That is not something I want to give him the satification of seeing.
Then Bethany is up next and her part is just as rough if not moreso with them having a relationship at the time. The lawyer is going at her stating she should have seen the signs on him doing this to us. Bethany ends up in tears because she honestly had no clue and how he told her he was always working, so she didn't know everything.
There are even records of him claiming to have been working where he texted her and he was in fact not working at the job he claimed to have been instead he was out doing other things.
Bethany is finally let off the stand and the three of us sit on the bench as recess is called to order. Dason is escorted out to a holding cell again, but he turned to look at the three of us with nothing but pure hate and disgust in his eyes.
A/N---
