Jungkook can't go a day without a trace of you.

It's been a month since that night you invited him over to your place after the fall dessert spread and let him stay late. You just sat on your couch and talked and laughed all night. There was no need to do more or be closer - being together seemed enough and it's that comfort and excitement he feels when he's next to you that he missed, that he wants to keep feeling.

Days later, he babysat Heejin at your place and you came home with lunch you all shared, and it felt so domestic, so comfortable, so natural.

Since then, he's babysat two more half days and you've spent every Saturday together - from celebrating your friends' birthdays, to more park meetups, then seeing each other at the mall, or just having lunch out after you'd taken Heejin to the doctor for a checkup or before meeting your family for movie night.

He's gone back to morning shifts to make sure he sees you for your pre-work ritual, taking Dea's role at the counter once she signals to him that you've arrived. He puts your drinks in to-go cups so he can write his little notes, and while you thought silly of it at the start, he doesn't miss the way your lips turn up once you read what he's written, cheesy they may be.

Days aren't the same when you're unable to come, but he understands. You did say that you're back to taking more cases and supervising the other associates, and the meetings to take in more clients don't end. Some days, however, you miss your alarm after a long night of getting Heejin to sleep.

He knows this because he'd message you when you don't drop by, usually by teasing with a photo of the day's featured dessert, and though you tend to be late in replying, you always do.

Sometimes it's a photo of the view of the road on the way home or a takeout of your late dinner. Sometimes it's a one-word text of your usually frustrated emotion of the day, and sometimes you just call.

The last bit is his favorite because he knows it's when you're in bed after having showered and ready to go to sleep. The fact that he's the one you want to talk to as you end your day makes him think that he really has a chance with you this time, especially as you casually say that you just wanted to call because you didn't see him that day.

You'd say goodnight, then he'd say something along the lines of I'll see you in your dreams, and you'd always reply with no, followed by the sweetest laugh he loves to hear. He doesn't want to jinx it, but it almost feels like that sigh you let out before you kissed him years ago, the one that silently told him that he's the one you want at the end of the day, the one you want to collapse to, the one you want to come home to. He just hopes you let him stay until the last time.

Jungkook isn't forcing anything, and most times, he lets you take the initiative and the lead. He likes to think that slowly, you're letting him be part of your weekends, of your plans; that maybe consciously or not, he's becoming a constant for you and Heejin.

He's gotten so used to seeing or hearing from you by any means, which is why your holiday trip to Hong Kong with your family is bittersweet for him.

You'd talked about being excited for Heejin's first trip abroad and all the things you're going to do, eat, and see. You've been looking forward to staying in your fancy hotel with all the comforts and luxuries and all the food you'll eat and things you'll buy.

You've been looking forward to some rest, you'd said, and he'd been really happy for you, even if he knew that your entire break would be spent there, and when you get back, you'd return to your busy life and would only be able to spare him a few hours of your day once again.

He reads your message saying you've boarded the plane, and with a few days in Disneyland as your first stop, he's not expecting to hear much from you. He already knows that Heejin will be running around and tiring you out, so he focuses on the preparations for tonight's Christmas event.
