Walking a few feet away from the cathedral, Jean finally placed a soap box down by a wall, and Tsura climbed on top of it, as their mother took out her flute and Esmé produced a tambourine and handed it to his younger sister.
"Alright, I think we're ready." Jean said, while Esmé took off his hat and placed it on the ground.
Violet smiled as she held her flute to her lips and began playing the first few notes. Tsura waited for a moment, as she lightly started to tap the tambourine against her hip. Once she and her mother got a good rhythm going, Tsura started dancing delicately on the wooden box that she was standing on. Some might say that she looked like the toy ballerina in a little girl's music box, for how graceful she looked.
The sound of the music eventually reached the ears of many people passing through. And while many kept their distance, there was a few who walked closer and actually stayed to watch the performance. Jean sat on the ledge of the wall, mostly keeping an eye out for any approaching soldiers, though he was lightly nodding his head to the music that his mother and sister were playing.
A few people in the growing crowd tossed coins into Esme's hat while he was a little more preoccupied with dancing with a little girl who had taken him by the hands, and after a nod of approval from the girl's parents, had went along with the dance, gently keeping the girl balanced on his shoes due to height differences.
Tsura gave a cheerful laugh as she gently hopped off the soap box as she continued dancing, until Jean suddenly gave a bird call and ran off. Violet, Tsura and Esmé stopped immediately, and the crowd was quick to disperse. "Esmé, go with Mama and Jean." Tsura said quickly as she started to pick up her brother's hat just as two soldiers came to a stop in front of her. Acting quickly, she tossed the hat to her brother, watching as he ran off quickly with their mother in tow.
"Alright Gypsy, you're coming with us. This is a no loitering area." One guard said, as he roughly grabbed her arm, and Tsura frowned as she tore herself free from his grasp.
"For your information, I'm not loitering! I was only entertaining the crowd!" She bit back as she glared at the soldiers and kicked one of them in the face as the other grabbed at her arms again. She frowned and shook them off and dashed off in the other direction. She could hear the clanking of their armor behind her, which was a strong indication that they were following her.
Casting a small glance over her shoulder, she saw that the number of soldiers chasing after her had increased. She swore softly under her breath as she continued to run. She didn't care what happened to her, as long as her family was safe. However, she was silently praying to any god there was for at least someone to help her escape somehow.
The sudden feeling of someone's hand suddenly grasping onto her arm made her jump in alarm, and she looked up to see that it was the same jester from earlier. He was looking at her with a silent expression of worry. "Follow me, mademoiselle. Don't be afraid." He said as he gave her arm a gentle tug in a different location.
Tsura looked over her shoulder, before she started following him through an alleyway. She followed him into a dark corner, where he pressed his back against a wall, and pulled her close. Tsura slowly looked over the wall, watching as the soldiers ran by and she gave a silent sigh of relief.
"First time running away from the soldiers, mademoiselle?" The man asked with a soft laugh, as Tsura brushed some of her hair away from her face.
"Just from that many in such a short amount of time. I'm not exactly as skilled as running away from soldiers like Esmeralda." She said, and the man's eyes widened in surprise.
"You know Esmeralda?" He asked, making Tsura smile, which caused a soft blush to appear on his face. Which he was thankful that his mask was covering it.
"I don't think there's a Gypsie in Paris who doesn't know Esmeralda." Tsura said, as she gently pulled away from him, and he reluctantly allowed for her to move from his grasp.
"May I know my savior's name, or must you now disappear in the shadows?" She continued with a soft laugh that made his heart skip a beat.
"Oh, of course. My name is Clopin Trouillefou, mon chere. And may I ask for your name?" He replied as he gave Tsura a charming smile.
Tsura's smile never left her face as she looked up at Clopin. "Tsura Dupont." She replied which made him hum thoughtfully.
"Light of Dawn. Very beautiful." He said, which made a light blush appear on Tsura's face.
"Well, thank you for helping me, Monsieur Trouillefou. I must be going. I have to find my brothers and mother." Tsura said as she started walking out of the dark corner, holding her hands behind her back. Clopin reached over and placed his hand on her shoulder.
"Will I ever see you again?" He asked, only to flinch a little bit, not meaning to sound as if he were desperate. Tsura turned around a little bit to face him and she gave him a small smile.
"Don't worry. You will. I will hopefully be making an appearance at the Festival of Fools, if things go well." She said as she started walking away, leaving him standing there.
Clopin tilted his head as he smiled after her. "I will be looking forwards to it...mon amore."
