"Was it true that that student had laser eyes??" Yua asked excitedly as you walked into the office.
"I have no idea. I put her to sleep when I got there, she's in the medical ward now until I figure out what to do with her." You check your watch, it's getting pretty late in the day and you now have a LOT to do.
"I thought most people manifested their quirks when they're little." Yua rested her chin in her hand on her desk.
"Usually yeah, did she have a quirk before?"
"We can check, what's her name?"
"Umm, I know her first name is Akira, she was in the general studies 1-D" You lean on the counter as Yua began typing away. If you're trying to find someone, Yua can find them, even with the smallest amount of information.
"Ummm, ok, I think I got it. Akira Sato, first year..yeah, she has a quirk. It's called sunbeam. She was able to shoot beams of light out of her hands."
"Interesting, I've read some studies on quirks and how they can change during puberty. It's becoming more common with population growth and bigger families." Yua kept scrolling through her file.
"She has 3 older brothers that have graduated from here and she has 2 more younger siblings. It doesn't say what their quirks are though."
"I bet if you look at her older brother's files they'd have a similar quirk. Increased variation between multiple siblings probably means that not everything manifests the same things and at the same time. I know I was a little bit of a late bloomer and a lot of the elements of my quirk didn't manifest well into late middle school."
"Ugh, puberty was the worst for me. I got boobs before all the other girls and my period started earlier." You were drawing little circles on a post it note you found.
"What about your quirk?"
"What about it?"
"When did it manifest?"
"Oh! In elementary school like everyone else. I think I'm your standard 80 percent, yknow?" You smiled at her comment, you wondered what life was like without quirks.
Hmmm, must've been a simpler time.
"Well, it's more than likely that her 'sunbeams' have increased in heat and from where she can shoot them. I guess they are sorta like laser beams.." You made a mental note to stop by the support section of the school on your way back to check on Akira.
"Are you going to talk to Nezu now?"
"Yeah, I probably should..welp, hopefully I catch you on your way out." You really were hoping to head home a little early, but duty calls.
You head up to Principal Nezu's office and the rest of the afternoon consisted of running around between different sections of the school. First you hit up the support section to see if they could whip something up for Akira to be able to see and control her sun beams (yes..you were inspired by Cyclops from the X-Men, which held a tiny spot in your nerdy little heart since your powers reminded you of Jean Grey). Then you checked up on the classroom where Akira was and the walls were already cleaned and fixed. Thankfully clean up has gotten a lot faster and much more efficient in a superhuman society. The detective in you wanted to snap some pictures so you could have evidence of the event, but you tried not to let it peeve you too much.
"Alright, on to see if the parents are here then back to support to see if they finished Akira's goggles.." you say to yourself. For a person who has literal telepathy as a quirk, you sure do speak out loud to yourself a lot.
When Akira's mom arrived to the school, you were asked to escort her to where Akira was in the medical ward. You filled her in on the situation and after she got settled, her mother spoke with the on-site doctor before you went back to the support center to get the goggles.
"We let some of our student's draw up some designs, then we tweaked and built a temporary one that should suffice until we know what she'll actually need." One of the teachers handed you a box. You expressed your gratitude and excitedly hurried back so Akira could try them on.
"Alright. Let's place these on and I'll wake her up.." you gently moved her hair to the side and made sure the device covered her eyes completely. You all stepped out of the room and when you snapped your fingers, Akira shot up.
"Honey? It's mom..are you feeling ok?"
"Mom?? What are you doing here? What's this on my face?" She reaches to move it and you stop her immediately.
"No! Keep it on. You said you couldn't control it. Remember?"
"Ms. [L/N]?" She began feeling the googles
"Yep, that's me, sweetie."
"Is this going to keep everyone safe?"
"Yeah! They should work. Here, let's have you look this way.." you moved her head to the wall opposite of you and everyone else in the room, "..and you can test it out."
Five seconds pass, 10 seconds pass..
"Um, are your eyes open?" You ask. There was an uncomfortable silence in the room.
"Yeah, they've been open since you woke me up" She says, still looking at the wall.
"Oh..well I guess they work!" You say awkwardly. Her mom rushes over to hug her.
"Well, you won't need me here anymore since we got it under control. I hope you figure everything out, Akira." She reaches over and gives you a tight hug.
"Thank you for helping me" you hug her back.
"No problem, if you need anything at all, you let me know. Ok?" She nods and smiles widely.
"Yes ma'am." You head out and take a deep breath. Another case solved, good job, [y/n]. You check your watch, you definitely missed dismissal, it's time to go home.
You head back to the main office and to your surprise, Yua and Aizawa are still here.
"Hey! What are you guys still doing here?"
"We wanted to know how everything turned out!-" Yua started.
"Oh, well you could've just te-"
"-over dinner" Aizawa said with a soft smile. The thought of food sounded amazing right now.
"That actually sounds like a fantastic idea. Lemme go get my stuff!" You hurry into your office and grab your things, closing and locking the door. You all decide on a restaurant and drive over in your separate cars.
