"So, am I wrong?"

I looked straight into her eyes, expecting an answer. All I wanted to hear was the truth. "Diego.. Do you really want to know?" She looked away. "Yes." I said with certainty. "Alright.. You're right. I've never belonged in this world. You know it all already. You've always figured out everything.. it's quite irritating." So it really was like that. I expected this, but couldn't believe it. She was.. from the future. "..When and where do you come from?" I questioned. "..2038, Y/Country, Y/City." She said quietly and looked down. "No way.." I didn't think she would be from so far away in time. It was simply unbelievable. "That's incredible... I was right about that." There were so many questions I wanted to ask. "You're not mad-?" She asked. "Why would I be mad? It's true that it wasn't worth keeping it a secret, but it would be just stupid of me to be upset. So now, you have so much to tell me. What's life like there?" I questioned out of curiosity. "Oh, sure. Where should I start from. 21th century is the age of the new technologies. Modern cars, going up to 350km an hour and even more. Electronic devises, planes that can take you from Japan to Paris in just 7 hours. I can't really explain everything, since you've never seen anything like this." She started talking. "7 hours? On a plane, across two continents? Thats about 14 thousand kilometers.." That was.. something new about her. She's full with surprises, really. "Yeah, there's a lot more, the architecture has advanced so much." She added. "Insane.. what about the countries? How have they changed?" I was curious about so many things. "Well, nothing really changed in America.. Although in Europe some new countries formed, in today's western Russia. And the best thing is that, there're no more conflicts between them. Also, other problems like world hunger, slavery, poverty and corruption are almost solved." It was really interesting. I continued to ask her all kinds of questions, while we both enjoyed our food and wine.

We were having fun, but then it was time that we went back to the hotel.
We paid the bill, and started going back.
"So, why did you decide to come here and participate?" I was wondering about that. "Well you know, the Steel Ball Run race is kind of like a historical event, every racer dreams of participating in it." She told me. "Ah, that explains it.." I stopped, thinking through the next question that I was going to ask. I took a deep breath. "Who.. wins?" I asked calmly. "Oh.. about that.. It's you, but there's just one weird thing about it.." She looked away. "What is it?" I got excited, but kind of worried by the way she was speaking. "You were disqualified, you hadn't shown up to get the reward. After this, you had gone missing and were never found." She said, I could feel her getting tense, scared.. "From the day I met you, I've always had this in mind. They say.." She gulped. "They say you had been murdered, Diego. Doesn't it make sense after all? You would never give up on your reward, after months of doing your complete best and all the hard work." She stated, her voice shaking. "..Is that really it? This is.. indeed news. What do you think? Will I die, Y/N?" I didn't know what to say.. Someone telling you that you will probably die in just a month didn't feel so nice. She gulped. "I- I don't know. As long as you're with me, I think everything will be fine. I'm also not sure if you really had died back then." She said with uncertainty in her tone. It was all really messed up. "Damn it.." I whispered. "Are you also.. planning to go back to your time once this is all over?" I asked, already kind of knowing what she would say. It was obvious, the reason why she couldn't surely say if she wanted to do anything with me. "Yes, there's no other way. Staying here any longer than what I have planned will make me forget my memories back in the future.." She looked really hurt. We arrived in front of the hotel. "You're being quite selfish, Y/N. Enjoying your time here with me, knowing that you will go back once this is over. Did you really think that's okay? Leaving me here after you've had your fun. After all, I'm a person too." I felt- a little pissed off. "It's not like that. I really do love you, and I really want to be with you. Don't get mad, please." She said while going up the stairs. "Saying this will change nothing. If that's it, then you have to choose, stay here or go back to where you came from." I felt terrible. I wasn't mad at her, but it just hurt to find out the truth. It ruined all my future plans with her.. "How could I be so foolish to think that I've finally found the one. I must always be the one that's fucked up.." It was awful. I unlocked the door to our room. "It's so unfair, Y/N. You can't just stay silent once your back is against the wall." I sighed. "I know. But what can I say? I don't want to leave my family." She strode to me. "I get it.. It just feels so bad, damn it.." I looked down to her. "I'll try to figure it out till then.. I promise." She hugged me. I was hella tired.. I hugged her back. "Okay, but.. Can we sleep now? I'm reallyy tired and I want to cuddle with you." I said while lightly stroking her hair. " For sur-" I picked her up and placed her on the bed. "Sleeping with those clothes on would be uncomfortable.. want me to help change you?" I looked her up and down. "Uhm.. okay." She agreed.
