We were just about to go.

"Tell me, what's your favorite season?" I asked him. "Spring most probably. Why asking." He sat on his horse. "I was just curious, I thought you would just say something like 'All four of them are fine' or just none.. But why spring?" I got on Megan Stallion. "It's the season of 'life' itself. Symbolizes hope and a new beginning. Rather than that, I love the smell and all the rainy days." He looked at me. "What about you?" He questioned. "Hmm, maybe summer? I'm off school and I like going to the beach. It gets really hot, but I rather being warm than cold." I thought about it. Did Diego even attend a school? "That's nice, let's go now." Silver Bullet galloped forward. I followed behind like I usually did. It was sort of a routine. He was the one to plan out things, it's not like I wasn't smart enough to do that, I was just mainly taking care of the horses, dealing with the luggage or wounds. He was helping out too, but not as much as I did. I brushed these thoughts away. "Hey Diego, have you gone to school?" I called out for him. "..No, I haven't." He answered. That was surprising. "Really? You seem to be well educated.." I wondered. "Libraries are a thing." He turned to look at me. "You're right." But still, can a person get this experienced just from books? He is definitely smarter than I thought. "And you said this year was supposed to be your last. For how long have you been attending school?" He asked. "12 years now. But after that, I'll be going to a college for 5 more years." I told him. "I see, that's a lot." He said. "You're a lot more educated than I thought." Diego sped up. "What did you think then?" I got curious. "You act too immature to have been studying for 12 years." He looked back straight into my eyes. "Hey, that was kind of mean." Diego was being insensitive again. "I thought you wanted to hear what I really think. I'm sorry, I didn't mean it in a mocking way, you're personality is "cute" if that was the right word." His voice was stern, without much emotion shown, but it still made me feel quite good that he apologized, it wasn't like him. "It's fine.." I just decided to let him focus. I got lost in my thoughts...

After few hours we reached the lake. It was all covered in ice and snow. It was incredibly beautiful. "Woah.." I muttered under my breath. "You like it? It's even better in the summer. Imagine making love to you here in a warm summer night.." He whispered. "You- you shouldn't say those things just like that!" The thought of it made me blush and look away. "By all signs you look like you liked what I said, but sure." He smirked, closing his eyes and looking back up to guide his horse towards the lake.

"So how are we going to find that wooden path?" I asked. "No fricking idea, there are miles that we must cover just to find it. And it's too dangerous getting onto the lake since in some places the ice isn't thick enough to support us both. Worst case we fall in the freezing lake and our horses die." He stated. "Sounds tough, let's just keep looking, maybe there will be a sign or something." I suggested. He said nothing, although the silence meant agreement.

Diego's pov:

Few more hours passed and I started losing hope. "Maybe we already passed it.." I sighed, we were probably going to lose this stage. "Such a shame, we were doing so good until now. Too bad she wouldn't want to use her stand for that." I bit my lip in frustration.
"Diego, I need to go pee-" Y/N said out of no where. "Right now?" I turned back to look at her. "Yeah- If I don't go soon, I'm probably gonna pee myself." She whispered. "On god, just go." I facepalmed. She carefully got off her horse onto the snow and then made her way to the woods opposite to the lake. I just stayed there waiting for her. In just some minutes she came back. She got on her horse. "So? Are we going?" She looked at me. "Yeah-" suddenly I sensed someone else's presence coming out of the woods. When I looked to see who it was- "Hey Diego, who is that on my hor-" It was.. a second Y/N. "The hell- Why is there another me." The Y/N that was sitting on Megan Stallion exclaimed. "Wha-What's happening? I just went to pee-" The other Y/N cried out. "Me too! Who the fuck are you?" Y/N sitting on the horse said. "I'm me! Why are you taking over my place! Diego are you replacing me??!" The other one shouted. I was just confused and didn't know what to think. "I'm not replacing anyone-" "Fuck you mean, replacing you?! You're tryna make him believe you're the real one!" So there's a fake and a real one? It could be just a confusion between dimensions when Y/N went back or up in time.. "Are you sure you both aren't just Y/N? There could be some type of universe merging?" I tried making some explanation. "No, Born to Die is a specific and accurate stand. Huh-" They both said, not so in time. "There's no way B2T will let such a mistake slip." The one standing on the snow said. She was about 20 meters away. "Diego, the one sitting next to you is someone else." She said with certainty. I turned to look at Y/N that was at the horse, she looked back at me. I stared straight into her eyes, they were the same. The same fragile eyes. "How can I be someone else? She's lying!" She cried out, pointing at her. I guided my horse away from her, I couldn't trust any of them. "You don't believe me-? Can't you see I'm the real one?" Her eyes started tearing up. "I don't believe any of you, that's why I'm keeping my distance." I said with a serious tone. Now both of them were about 20 meters away from me. "Okay so, you're Y/N x," I pointed at the one on the horse. "and you're Y/N y." I pointed to the other one. They stayed in silence waiting for me to speak. "Why should they fight.. Two of them is better than one.." I sighed. "I'll now proceed to find the fake one. Show me your stand." I shouted out. They both at the same time manifested it. "Alright.. splendid." I said to myself. "Now, Y/N x. Teleport to that tree over there then come back to your place." I pointed to one birch tree. She did as I said. I precisely counted the time it took her, 1.6 seconds. "Now Y/N y, do the same, but that tree over there." I pointed at another tree so it can be the same distance. "Kay." She nodded and did as I told her. "1.3.. interesting." I murmured. She was 20% faster, although it could be just a mere coincidence. "Can you both go back in time?" I asked. "Of course." They both said. "Well, I can't know for sure.. So I'll ask both of you some questions." I looked down, thinking of some. It could have been a stand user just impersonating Y/N, but I was unsure how they could fake even her stand. "Y/N x is suspicious.. but she came out of the forest first. It's such a shame we're waisting time because of this..."
"What's my favorite color?" I looked back up. "Blue." They said at the same time. "That's quite guessable.." I thought to myself. "When and where did we first meet?" I tried thinking of something harder. "After the first stage, at the table with food." They answered. "If the fake is someone from the race, then they will probably know that.." I gritted my teeth. "When did we start traveling together?" "At the Arizona desert." They immediately said. That was too easy.. I needed something better. "How many times have I made love to you?" I had something in mind. "Wha- Why would you say that out loud-" "2." Y/N y didn't answer while Y/N x did. "That was way too easy, or maybe I'm just smart." I guided my horse back to Y/N x. She closed her eyes with a victorious smile on. "They couldn't know how many times we had sex, that's why they didn't answer." She glared at Y/N y. I sighed. "I don't quite understand this ability, but seems it's about impersonating one's appearance and stand(their abilities too). Looks like they made quite the observation for all this information. But no one can really 100% copy someone, right? Too bad for you." I immediately jumped and slit her throat. I knew just how to kill a stand user with Y/N overpowered ability. The death had to be fast, with no time to think or take action. She fell on the white snowy ground, slowly staining it with crimson red from the blood dripping out of the gapping wound. "You would never say that in front of another person." I turned to look at the real Y/N. "For fuck sake- You for real scared me for a second, I thought you will leave me." She cried out running towards me. "These cheap tricks really got no success with me, of course I won't ever leave you." I chuckled. She jumped and hugged me, pushing us both to fall on the snow. "That was scary.." She whispered. "Was it?" I asked. "Yeah.. can I have a kiss n-" I pulled her closer and began giving her small smooches all over her face. She was adorable. "AAH, that's way too much now!" She backed off. "Shut up." I pulled her back down and proceeded to kiss her. She just gave in to me. "We must go- we already lost much time, why are you kissing me now.." She murmured. "I've realized that you're too precious. We're already far ahead of everybody else. Let me just have a minute and enjoy having you with me." I continued kissing her. "Okay.. I love it when you do that anyways." She enjoyed it.

After this we began scouting the shore again.
"This is so fucking tiring, can we just take the normal route without any shortcuts through the damn lake?" She sounded upset. "No, let's keep looking for it." I insisted on it. She sighed but followed me behind on her horse.
It's true that by then we could've travelled a lot of distance, but looking for that path didn't tire our horses as much.

Y/N's pov:

I almost completely lost hope but then I saw something standing on the shore about 200 meters away from us. "Hey, what's that?" I pointed at it. Diego noticed it too. "I have no idea, we should take a closer look."
As we were getting closer, its shape got clearer and clearer. It looked like a totem. "Could that be-"

"That's clearly a sign, the wooden path is certainly somewhere around it." Diego was taking a closer look at it. "Alright, we'll get on the ice now, but we'll be careful." He got on his horse. "Is it really a good idea? Should we just look for it a little more from the shore?" I was worried about the ice being too thin. "Why would they put that if it's not here." He said. "What's your point?" I was confused. "I mean, why would they make a path somewhere and put the sign 100 meters away from it? It just doesn't make sense, yes?" He tried explaining. "I get it.. So it must be right..here?" I questioned. "That's what I'm saying. Now let's go." He guided his horse on the ice. I hesitated for a second, but I did so too.
