"Yeah and be quiet. Thats our secret. I thought it'd be what you wanted. And for the ritual. Its the joining of our bodies to prove we are in fact the mortem pair. It will involve love free passion and nakedness." She says grabbing my shirt and pulling he closer so we are inches apart. "I mean if you don't understand that. You're screwed. How do i know? Well i asked a friend who knows the person who cursed us and thats what she said but lengthy. Well she said sex but my description was wayy better."
"No." I say.
"Why are you saving your white card for Vic?" She asks. "Well if you do me you'll technically do her and i might let her take control. For a while." She whispers in my ear sending chills down my spine.
"You disgust me."
"The eclipse is tonight. It be fate that you do the ritual well me. Whether you want to or not. And you would have to do the ritual with the other. You have a choice here." She yells as i walk off quickly to avoid her. To stop listening.
But she never said that Vic was the other. She never said she was either. I have a 50/50 chance here. Hopefully its Vic. Hopefully im dreaming and i can go back to my shitty American life when i wake up.
Sadly its reality. Somehow. Somehow I've gotten myself into a mess. Somehow i need help from an expert. So i make what could be the biggest mistake of my life.
I knock on the door once i arrive. This time its silent. "Come in" he says. I can barely hear his voice through the thick door.
"Hi dad." I say. He points towards the other chair signalling for me to sit down. "Have you heard about Vic?" I ask.
"Yeah. Its a shame her evil side took over. Look there are plenty more fish in the sea. You are too young to settle down." He says calmly whilst filling in some forms on his desk.
"She killed someone." It still doesn't catch his attention. "The ritual has ro be done tonight."
"What ritual?" He asks. Before realising i mean the book. "I. I was never able to read the book as it belonged to Vic. Once one of the mortem pair found it. It was cursed to not be read by another except for the other mortem pair."
"Cool. I dont need to go into detail. But if Vic stays trapped ill have to do it with her evil self. And i dont wanna. I wanna do the ritual with Vic. But its fate." I say. He can see what i mean now.
"Oh. Uhh. Im not an expert. But from what i know. When someone gets possessed. There is always a way to make them come forth. Usually by strong emotion. Remember Vic can see and hear everything her possessor does."
It takes me a moment for me to come to terms with this. There had to be a loophole. Then i remember reading Vic's entries on the book. Her evil side always came out when she was around me. Like after we kissed. Unfortunately i wasn't the first to trigger this. There had been a few phoneys. Pretending to be the other mortem pair. Luckily im probably the real deal.
"So if i like kiss the evil bitch Vic should take over die to strong emotions?" I ask.
"Ειναι ειρήνη" he replies.
"Greek?" I ask wondering what it has to do with anything. I took a few lessons as a kid. But not much stuck. I try to remember what it meant. I heard it a lot. "Its peace?"
My father nods his head while Im still sat wondering what it has to do with my situation. "Instead if getting her excited or feeling in love. Peace. Or in greek 'ειρήνη' sometimes it was said to banish evil spirits. Of cause i never thought of trying it. Maybe. It could work. Or it may just be the ancient greek pretending to know everything like always." He clarifies.
"Thanks. And if i die. Theres a chance i may not hate you." I say before leaving.
... Its almost the eclipse and im totally freaking. I keep practicing the word. Eirina Erini Eirini. (How to pronounce-ish) Ειρήνη im finally able to say it quietly. Bur to Bitchy is another thing. Then i see her. Perfect red hair. Her eves an amazing green and violet. And her smile. Beautiful.
"Hey, now the ritual." She says. And i remember. Its not her.
