Alpha Trion stood alone in his temporary quarters, looking out of the reinforced window. The room was furnished with a berth in one corner by the door, a desk by the window, and a stash of energon cubes across from the berth. A blaster laid stationary on the desk. Sunlight streaked in through the window, illuminating his pedes and chassis. The Prime sighed, watching through wary optics as the war grew closer. He could hear Autobots and Polyhexians alike fall, explosions and blaster-fire from Seekers sounding all around outside.

Alpha Trion could hear pedesteps approaching the room. He turned to look at the door, hearing whispery voices accompany them. The door slid open. Instead of Megatron, like he expected, he saw Optimus and an injured Seeker. The Prime's optics widened upon seeing the two Autobots.

"Alpha Trion!" Optimus exclaimed, happy to see his mentor.

They entered the room, the taller Autobot turning and looking down the hall with his blaster raised.

"Optimus." The Prime said, walking around his desk to stand before him, "What are you doing here? You should be with your squadron."

"Zeta Prime sent us to get you to safety." His student explained.

The older Cybertronian sighed, shaking his helm. Optimus looked back at the Seeker for a moment, then back at his mentor, nervousness clear in his optics.

"We have to go." He said, "The Decepticons have infiltrated the city. We'll take you to Autobot HQ through the tunnels."

"Optimus," Alpha Trion said, "I cannot go with you."

"What?" The younger Cybertronian asked.

"You've become such a good Autobot and friend." The Prime stated, resting both servos on the smaller Autobot's shoulder-pads, "I could not be prouder of you."

"Alpha Trion, wh–?" Alpha Trion interrupted his student.

"The Autobots don't need someone like me anymore. I've served my purpose." He explained with a bittersweet smile.

"But... the Matrix!" Optimus argued, "How can we reach it if you... die?"

The older Autobot chuckled, "You don't need me to find the Matrix. You have that knowledge. Zeta Prime and Ultra Magnus will need you to help lead the Autobots."

The younger Autobot looked at the ground, sighing. He lifted his helm a few moments later, sadness in his optics.

"I'm not ready to lead." Optimus said.

"None of us are truly ready for our responsibilities, Optimus. Not even us Primes." Alpha Trion said, moving a servo to touch his student's chassis, directly over his pounding Spark, "All I ask is that you protect your teammates."

Optimus took a deep breath, optics hardening to a look of determination, and nodded. Alpha Trion smiled at him. He removed his servos from his student's frame.

"You must go, both of you." He said, "The Decepticons are near."

The red and blue Autobot nodded, then looked back at the white Seeker. He looked at Optimus in return.

"We'll inform Zeta once we're safe." He said, looking back up at his mentor, "Thank you, Alpha Trion."

"You're welcome, Orion Pax." Alpha Trion said.

Optimus was taken aback for a moment, frozen in place. Then, his optics glowed brighter, like he was smiling. He turned and walked to the Seeker.

"Jetfire, we have to go." He said.
