Rose's house came into view just as the sun was rising. The tree branch panels that lined the house looked older, even though they'd only been away for a few days.
Shard, Yeti, Boriel, and Oak were standing on the front porch. Cherry smiled and waved at her boyfriend. Shard blushed and waved back.
The group flew in and landed lightly on the floor. A layer of weight seemed to be lifted off everyone the second they were reunited. Cherry sighed, it was wonderful to be home. She hugged her dad tight.
"Cherry, thanks for coming back," he murmured. Her smile grew even wider.
"Thanks for staying here," she replied calmly. Her voice was filled with a slight musical tone. Everyone around her was so bright and cheery, the energy was infectious. But the effect was quickly wearing off.
"So what happened with the assassins?" Rose asked.
Oak frowned. "They left after realizing you all were gone. Did you not run into them?" He questioned. Cherry could see the worry in his eyes.
Rose shook her head. "We didn't run into them..." she paused for a moment before continuing, "Uh-Oak? Maybe we should talk inside." She nodded towards the dragonets.
"Maybe I should come with you," Cherry interjected.
"No, absolutely not," Oak and Rose said in unison. They joined hands and briskly walked inside.
Cherry glared at the door. Why won't they let me listen in? What's so scary that I can't hear it? She thought angrily. Shard placed a claw on her shoulder. "They will tell us if it's anything important," he said, "don't worry. He kissed the top of her head.
"EWW!" Amber cried, clamping a claw over her eyes.
Cherry whacked her with her tail. Amber pretended to trip over the porch swing, she fell into Shard's arms, giggling.
"Oh manly Shard, I-" she was interrupted by Cherry's loud laughter. Boriel and Blackpearl joined in too.
Yeti just stood awkwardly near the back of the group.
However, all their hysterics had not made Cherry forget about her parent's conversation inside. Even Shard could not cure her curiosity. Although, she did think he was pretty cute when he was trying to keep calm.
The front door opened again and her parents came back out. Oak looked extremely tense and Rose didn't look much better.
"You are going to tell me what happened, right?" Cherry suggested forcefully. Her wings were clenched at her sides and her scales were a pale red. Just on the brink of anger.
Rose looked at Oak. "Well, yes. But sweetie you have to understand, we have no choice."
"What do you mean?" Cherry asked, suddenly very frightened. Amber and Blackpearl stepped closer to her.
"Let's put it this way. Best case scenario, they gave up and are heading home. But we have to prepare for the worst. They could come back with a whole army. You have to leave. Do you have anywhere in mind?" Rose explained anxiously. Oak grabbed her hand while they braced for the reaction.
Amber started screaming first. "We can take them! We did it ONCE we can do it AGAIN! You can't kick us out! Won't that just put us in more danger anyways?!"
"We have nowhere to go! It's not like we could go to my family! Half of us don't even have a place to go back to after this," Yeti spoke up. Blackpearl and Boriel nodded.
Rose opened her mouth but Starflower got there first. "Are you going to throw me out too?! What in Pyrrhia am I supposed to do?"
"You're not even supposed to be here!" Oak yelled.
