And the Second Year Commences

The second we got home I disappeared into my room with the black journal. I grabbed my favorite pink, glittery gel pen and scribbled out a hello. I felt certain I'd get a response. I was correct. They replied with a hello and asking who I was. I told them who I was and bless their heart, but they hadn't heard of my family. So I asked who they were and when they told me they were Tom Marvolo Riddle I was just tickled pink.

K-Hey Fam!! We're cousins! We're both descendants of Salazar Slytherin!!

T-That's impossible.

K-You would think that as the Gaunt family blasted my great grandmother off the Gaunt family tree. So you wouldn't have known she existed. Also, FYI I can feel your magic trying to possess me. It won't work dear cousin.

Our conversations went from there. I stopped feeling attempts at possession and they just wrote. We had many disagreements, but it didn't stop fondness from growing between the us. Not that Tom would ever admit but I told him routinely how he was my favorite cousin. Those disagreements of course were over muggles, muggleborn, and half-blood. I would repeatedly ask how he can be against half-bloods when he himself was a half-blood. That reminder did anger him enough that he didn't speak to me for the rest of the day. Things were fine now if not just a bit tense. But what was most important now was the start of second year.

Adding two more girls to our cabin proved impossible so we divided into 2 cabins. Girls in one and the boys next to us in their own.

"Daphne what did you name your familiar?" I asked.

"Midnight." Daphne answered.

"And you Ginny?" I asked again.

"I was so interested in the Norse gods and goddesses you taught us about over the summer. And I know foxes are known for being cunning and mischievous, so I thought I'd name mine after the god of mischief. Hence my familiar is Loki." Ginny said proudly.

Currently the 3 familiars were playing on the floor of the cabin and getting along. Then a gentle knock occurred before the door slid open to reveal a beautiful young girl with white, blond hair.

"Hello, my name is Luna Lovegood and I'd be pleased if you'd allow me to sit with all of you. The cabins like yours are all full but yours didn't have any nargles about. May I join?" Luna asked.

"Of course you may. I'm Katarina Dobreva. Will this be your first year?" I asked as I allowed Luna to sit beside me.

"And what are nargles?" Pansy asked.

"Yes, this will be my first year. Nargles are tiny little magical winged creatures. Much like pixies. They're a nasty bunch as are wrackspurts. They're invisible and float into your ears causing your brain to become unfocused and confused." Luna softly said.

I could listen to her soft musical voice all day.

"Well, those don't sound lovely at all. At least I'll now know what to blame when I seem to lose my way and become confused. This here is Ginny Weasley and Astoria Greengrass they're both first years just like yourself. I feel like you'll be a great friend of ours too." I said.

"I would like that." Luna said.

If any of my girls were to tease Luna for her sight they wisely withheld and followed my lead. It is why I made certain to speak first after Luna explained the creatures. After all they are in my family books so it's plausible that they exist or have at some point. I do know for a fact that there is more than one sight. Those who can see things that will happen, those who can see creatures the rest can't, those who can see auras like myself, etc. Since they saw I'd accepted Luna into our group the rest of my girls followed suit in introducing themselves. We spent the rest of the ride getting to know Luna and letting her get to know us. We warned her about Peeves as well.

Finally we arrived and bid farewell to Ginny, Astoria, and Luna as they went to the canoes. We went to the thestral drawn carriages and rode off towards Hogwarts. Once we arrived and were seated at our tables I noticed the two of the golden trio appeared to be missing. I stopped noticing when the first years stepped in for their sorting. I watched with enthusiasm waiting to see where my favorite firsties would be sorted. First up was Astoria who was unsurprisingly sorted into Slytherin. Then not long after Luna was called for her sorting and the hat called out Ravenclaw. I could see the surprise on my girls faces.

"Having the sight and not being afraid to talk about it doesn't mean you lack intelligence." I scolded them.

"Yes Queen." The girls answered.

"What are you on about?" Draco asked.

"We met Luna on the train and let her sit with us. She has the sight to see magical creatures that others cannot. She was telling us about them on the train." I explained.

"I can't wait to talk to her about them." Theo said excitedly.

I already had a feeling those two would hit it off. So I wasn't surprised to see his interest light up as he was interested in magical creatures. After a bit of waiting Ginny was finally called to be sorted. We all held our breath as we waited. Did we care if she was in Gryffindor? Not really. We were already good friends with the twins. But it would be nice to have her in our house. I personally wasn't at all surprised when the hat called out Slytherin. When I got to know Ginny over the summer I could tell she was quite cunning as well as fiery in nature. My group all stood and clapped which caused the rest of the Slytherins to stand and clap as well. Ginny walked over and came immediately to our side where she clutched my hand.

"My family is going to kill me." Ginny whispered in fear.

"I don't think they will." I reassured her.

Not long after the sorting as we were eating I watched our Head of House drag an extremely disheveled Ron and Harry into the great hall. Rumors were quick to spread as to what happened which had me laughing.

"I think it's your brother who will be killed." I said in jest to Ginny.

Ginny was mortified that she was related to him.

"If they missed the train they should have just waited for our parents. They would have known what to do." Ginny said as she smacked her forehead.

"They're useless without the brain of the group." I said with a shrug.

"You know I actually had a crush on Harry. I mean he's not bad, but that crush is definitely dead." Ginny said with a shudder.

My parents had already written to Professor Snape as our Head of House to explain the Blaise situation. They let him know that Blaise seeks me for comfort, so he often sleeps with me. Professor Snape let me and him know in confidence that the halls to the girls rooms and boys were charmed to let me on their side and Blaise on our side. That way he could continue to cuddle me at night for comfort. That night before bed I went to update my cousin.

K-Back at Hogwarts for my second year! I'm so excited to see what this year will bring.

T-You should seek out the Chamber of Secrets. It's real and I can tell you where to find it. I'm sure as my cousin you can speak in parseltongue, correct?

K-I'm not surprised it's real as I discovered the Room of Requirement aka the Come and Go Room. I looked for it after reading about it. Also, yes I can speak parseltongue.

T-Good. When you're ready to seek it out just let me know.

K-I shall. I'm going to sleep now cousin. Talk to you tomorrow. Love you.

T-Good night my sweet cousin. Take care.

Not long after I fell asleep Blaise unsurprisingly joined me and drew the curtains around my bed so others wouldn't know. He used his wand to alert him to wake before the rest of my dorm so he could sneak back to his bed. He then cuddled into me and I wrapped him in my arms before drifting back to sleep.

A/N: I do honestly believe Ginny would make a marvelous Slytherin.
