While most of the school attended the Halloween dinner in the Great Hall there were some who were decidedly and maybe noticeable missing. The students were buzzing with hyper activity for the party to follow.
The girls had just finished decorating the Room of Requirement and by decorating it didn't take much since the Room gives you what you require. The Weasley's slipped in with food and drink as the girls were leaving to go get ready. A certain Weasley slipping a certain girl a certain school uniform. The girls burst into giggles at what had been passed to a certain girl.
"Y'know at least muggles get the broom right." Pansy said while dressed as the muggle version of a witch.
I was busy working on making my hair look a frizzy mess as she said that. Once my hair was done I dressed in the uniform and then used a sticking charm for Harry and Ron's heads. Granger probably thought I'd gotten my revenge for her trying to be me but nope. After tonight I'd be done. Finally we headed to our common room where the boys were waiting. Said boys letting off whistles when they saw the girls.
The party was in full swing when we arrived to the Room of Requirement. The party nearly came to a stop as the crowd looked from me to Hermione.
"Unbelievable. Why are you dressed that way?" Hermione asked.
"Well, you wanted to look like me so I thought I'd give it a try being you for Halloween. It's not bad." I said with a shrug while twirling a frizzed curl.
Hermione sighed and walked away back to where my cousin was who I waved at. I watched in amusement as he just shook his head at me in disappointment before giving his attention back to Hermione. I watched Harry wincing while rubbing his scar and shot my cousin a look while nodding at my imbecile brother. My look saying we need to take care of that horcrux. Tom nodded back that he understood my silent conversation.
My girls and I headed for the drinks before I noticed my favorite Honeyduke treat. I grabbed a cauldron cake and took a bite. I groaned and opened my eyes to Reggie holding a butterbeer up to me. I sipped from it and took another bite. While I had my eyes closed enjoying my second bite Reggie was wiping my butterbeer mustache away.
"Excuse me Regulus but I need to borrow the Queen." Cedric said.
Cedric then tenderly pulled me to a corner away from the music.
"I figured out the egg. Have either Fleur or Vik figured it out yet?" Cedric asked.
"Nope." I said whilst pronouncing the P hard.
"Don't judge me but I took it into the prefect's bathroom to figure it out. I was thinking I'd have privacy and better acoustics to hear the atrocious singing. The acoustics sure worked better. The noise was even more grating that I dropped it in the bathwater. When I went to get it I heard the voices clearly. They sounded beautifully underwater like sirens. They sung that they can only be heard beneath the water where they live. They sang that they've taken something important and that I'll have an hour to recover it. If they want to listen for themselves they can use the prefect bathroom. But thought I'd save them time." Cedric said with a blush on his face.
"Thanks for the help! I'll be sure to let them know. Do you need help planning this one?" I asked.
"No I'm confident in this trial." Cedric replied with a smile.
I gave the boy a thumbs up before walking to find the other two champions. I found Vik giving Hermione heart eyes that she wasn't noticing.
"That's a poor choice for a date to the Yule Ball. She's into Ron but I think her interest is shifting into my cousin who can match her intellect. Don't get me wrong you're also smart not that you let other see it but her interest is already divided. I find it unwise to add another match. You should take your fellow champion, Fleur. You're used to being surrounded by Veela that it doesn't effect you. She'll appreciate having a date who she gets on with and is with her for her and not for the effects of the Veela. Speaking of our Veela, where is she? I have news for the both of you." I said.
Viktor tore his gaze from Hermione and nodded his head in the direction of the pretty blonde. We walked over to her and I took them both to where Cedric and I had spoken.
"Cedric figured out what the message is from the egg. It's mermaids which is why you can't hear what they're saying because you aren't underwater with the egg. They're singing that they've stolen what you value most and you'll have an hour to retrieve it." I explained.
Vik and Fleur gazed at each other as they silently thought of how to get through this challenge.
"Zis one doesn't seem so hard." Fleur said.
"Agreed. Fleur would you do me the honour of being my date to the Yule ball?" Viktor asked with a small bow over the hand he had picked up.
Viktor then pressed a gentle kiss to Fleur's hand and the Veela flushed slightly.
"Oui monsieur." Fleur murmured delicately.
"Do you 'ave a date yet, Kat?" Fleur turned to ask me.
"Not yet. I'm not concerned though because I know I'll have one. The ball hasn't even been formerly announced yet." I answered with a smile.
The Halloween bash passed in a blur. I spent most of the time with my girls and the champions. I got to know Cho quite well that night and found I liked the Ravenclaw beauty who caught the heart of Cedric.
The weekend passed quickly and Monday at dinner the Yule Ball was formally announced. The Great Hall was buzzing immediately with excitement and nerves and who would ask who. Gossip ran amok all over the Great Hall.
"Ewww did you hear that gossip that disgusting git Cormac is taking me to the ball?" I asked aghast as we left the hall.
"You could never be our Queen with a git like that." Pansy said.
"I agree. I wouldn't deserve the crown." I said with a shudder.
But sure enough the next morning Cormac was approaching the Slytherin table much to everyone's disgust.
"My dear Katarina Kamenova DoBreva, would you do me the honour of being my date to the Yule Ball? I am sure someone of your standards appreciates one who doesn't waste time to win a prize such as yourself. Someone with the courage to approach this table for your hand." Cormac said grandly while his chest was expanding proudly.
"I'm sorry but..oh dear. How do I put this...who even are you? Do you even go here?" I asked with wide eyes.
"Why it's me Cormac McLaggen. Where shall I pick you up for the ball?" Cormac asked even though I never agreed to go with him.
"Wait did I tell him yes? I don't recall saying yes." I asked my friends.
"No you never said yes. You indicated that you didn't even know who he is and he proceeded to assume you were his date." Regulus said while looking coldly at said boy.
"Hm, that's what I thought. I'm going to have to say no. I don't like boys who think to take what they want without any word from the lady. So in case you didn't get that. No I won't go to the ball with you." I said sternly.
I could hear him sputtering as snakes got rid of him.
"Tik tok." I whispered in Reggie's ear before standing to leave the Great Hall with my girls.
A/N: My apologies on waiting so long to update. I started this chapter a while ago actually and didn't know where to go with it. It took me a while to figure out.
So how do y'all want Reggie to ask Kat to the ball? I don't have an idea yet. I know what I'm doing with the twins but not Reggie.
