The girls hurried down the sidewalk towards Mama's Pizza. They giggled and talked non-stop. Just as they were about to walk past an alley they heard laughter and shouts. They huddled together and moved closer to the building so they could hear better what was being said. Some girl said, “Look, that's our hangout place and we don't want to look at a couple of fat asses stuffing pizza in their mouths.” Lyric heard a girl crying, then say, “We have just as much right as you do to eat there. Why don't you just leave us alone, please.” Then the girl that they heard speak first said, “Not only are they fat and ugly but their stupid too.”She and her three started laughing.

Melody huddled closer to Lyric and whispered, “I know these girls. They think their better then everyone else and try to bully their way around school. No one likes them and no one can tell anyone who can eat at our pizza house except my parent's.” Lyric nodded and whispered back, “I feel bad for anyone that is bullied, I know how it feels.” With that said Melody stepped around the corner. Lyric didn't try to stop her. Instead she moved around the corner and stood beside her friend.

“Hey, who the hell you think you are telling anyone who can and can't eat at my pizza house?” Melody shouted. “Well, well, well. What do we have here? Oh look, it's freckle face and the new girl.” Said the girl they had first heard speak earlier. Now they all started moving towards Melody and Lyric. The two girls that were crying earlier had now stopped but still just stood there in their places. “Look Heather, why don't you just go home and grow up.” Melody snapped back.

“Come on girls, let's go back to my house. Don't want to hang around garbage too long cause soon we'll start smelling like it does.” All four girls laughed and moved around Melody and Lyric. Heather walked in front of Lyric, “Umm, you might want to reconsider who you hang with? She nodded at Melody. Being that your the new girl we'll forgive your ignorance this time. I'm Heather.” She stuck her hand out but Lyric kept her hands at her side. Before Lyric could do anything Heather reached out, grabbed Lyric's hand and shook it. Lyric jerked her hand back and Melody said, “Just leave already.”

They both watched as the three girls walked off. When they turned back around the other two girls had moved beside them. “Umm, thanks. You didn't have to do what you did, we're kind of used to it.” Melody looked at them in shock. “Well, you shouldn't have to get used to it. Their bullies and you should stand up for yourselves.” “I know but it's just easier to ignore and walk away.” The girl that had been crying earlier said. “But that just let's them get away with it and doesn't do anything to fix the issue.” Melody explained. The two girls just shrugged their shoulder's, “Thanks again.” They both said and walked away.

“I just don't understand why people don't stand up for themselves. Bullying is wrong and it needs to stop. People who bully are just very insecure, sad and ignorant people. You know, it's learned at home from their insecure and ignorant parent's, don't you? I think I am going to make a Stop Bullying campaign at school. What do you think? What to join?” Melody look over at Lyric but she wasn't beside her. She hadn't noticed that Lyric hadn't followed her when she walked away from the alley. She turned around and jogged back to the alley.

She found Lyric still standing in the same spot, rubbing her hand on her coat. “Hey, you okay?” She asked and touched Lyric's shoulder. Lyric shook her head and turned towards Melody, “No, I'm not. Melody, that girl is not okay.” “What girl? Of course their not okay. They were bullied, they'll go home, cry some and go on continuing to take that kind of crap.” “No, not the one's who were bullied. The tall girl.” “Oh, you mean Heather. Of course she's not okay, she's mean and hateful. Always has been as long as I've known her.” Lyric turned and looked Melody in the eye's, “Melody, she's not just mean and hateful, she is evil.”

They both just stood there in silence and shivered from a chill that had not been brought on by the temperature or a cold wind. Lyric finely broke the silence, “Look, I'm really sorry but I need to get home. I promise I will make it up to you tomorrow.” Before Melody could respond, Lyric took off running towards home, yelling over her shoulder, “I promise tomorrow.” Melody stood there a second or two watching her, then she turned around and headed to the pizza house. Yup, her friend was weird but she still liked her, she thought as she walked.
