Early the next morning Melody met Lyric at her house so they could walk to school together. Andrea had offered them a ride but they had declined saying that the walk would be good for them, however, the real reason they wanted to walk was they wanted the time to talk privately before they got to school. Melody let Lyric know that JaCoby would be in the hospital for a week and then at home for two weeks before he went back to school. Lyric let Melody know about her and her mother's plan to cook for them after JaCoby made it home from the hospital. With that out of the way, Lyric got down to the serious issue on her mind.

“Melody, I need to tell you something. Heather is not a good person at all and you and your family need to be very careful of her.” Melody said, “I already know that she's a rotten person.” Before Melody could say anything else Lyric interrupted her, “No, she's not just a rotten person. She is evil and capable of doing really bad things. She is going to do these bad things too.” Melody stopped walking. After a few steps Lyric had realized this and turned around. Melody stared at her for a few seconds then said, “What do you mean she's going to do these bad things? How would you know what she's going to” do?” Lyric turned back around and said, “I just know, that's how,” then she started to walk off. Melody caught up with her and grabbed Lyric's coat sleeve to turn her back around.

“Lyric, people just don't know shit like that unless someone has told them. Who told you and what have you heard?,” Melody said with an edge to her voice. Lyric looked at her friend for a second then said, “Nobody told me anything, I just know.” Melody crossed her arms over her chest and blow out an exasperated huff, “Like I said Lyric, people just don't know shit. Someone either tells them something or they guess. Now which is it?” It was Lyric's turn to cross her arms over her chest now, “And like I said, nobody told me anything.” Lyric then turned around and started walking towards school again. Melody caught up with her and said as she walked beside Lyric, “Lyric, I'm not mad at you it's just that your starting to freak me out a little. How does anyone just know stuff?”

Lyric stopped and placed a hand on Melody's arm's that were still crossed over her chest, “Look, your just gonna have to trust me on this, okay? If I tell you it will just freak you out more and you won't be my friend anymore. You are my first friend here and I don't want to lose that.” Melody interrupted her, “Woo, just hang on a sec. I am your friend and you are not going to lose me. Maybe it'll freak me out and maybe it won't but we aren't going to know that unless you tell me.” Lyric shook her head, “You don't understand. This happened to me back in Washington and my best friend said the same thing practically. We had been friends since kindergarten and she said that nothing would ever tear us apart but it did and I just can't go through that again. Lyric started to cry and continued, It may sound stupid but losing her friendship tore me to shreds and that is the real reason my mother and I moved here, for a new start.”

Melody reached out and hugged her and said, “It's okay. Of course it hurt you, losing friends sucks big time. But if you don't mind me saying, she must have been stupid and didn't deserve your friendship. But I promise that I am not that shallow or stupid.” Melody hugged her tight and then released her. Lyric sniffled and wiped the tears from her face, “Another thing you don't understand is that I knew it was going to happen but I ignored my feelings and did it anyhow. I knew she was going to be afraid and not understand but I hoped and having that hope crushed is what really tore me apart.” Lyric turned then ran towards the school house, leaving Melody standing there alone.

Melody didn't understand what was going on but she knew she had to convince Lyric that she wasn't like that girl back in Washington. She wasn't stupid or shallow and whatever Lyric was hiding she would understand it by learning about it but first she had to know what “it” was. Melody opened the door to enter the school but it was slammed shut by a gloved hand. Melody glanced over to find Heather standing there smiling at her. “Sorry Mel but we need to have a little chat first,” Heather and her two friends sneered. Melody glared back at Heather and through clenched teeth said, “I don't think so Heather. You nearly burned down my family's business. The only person you need to be talking to is a shrink so that maybe someone can help you with your sick little issues. Now get the hell out of my way.”
