Carol's POV
I couldn't believe this was happening.
"Carol how could you?!" Rodger exclaimed. "Rodg, listen to me-"
" You have three kids , you have a high rating tv show and this is how I'm repaid?!"
I didn't dare cut him off until he calmed down. Harvey and I just glanced at each other; both of us thinking on how to break it to him gently.
"Rodg," Harvey started.
"Don't even talk to me. Do you want to be fired?!"
"Rodger! That is enough!" That just rushed out of my mouth..well then. So I figured I'd keep talking to make my point clear.
" Rodger, I have done a lot of thinking, and I feel like our marriage is falling apart." He looked as if he was about to say something but I beat him to it.
"Between the arguments, the pressure of work, looking after our gorgeous children, it has all become too much and Harvey was here to snap me out of my miserable state. You can say he's a lifesaver perhaps." I smiled at him and held his hand. "So please do not fire Harvey because of this. He is a true asset to our show and will not be the same without him."
Rodger looked back blankly until he could finally speak.
"Carol, I know our marriage hasn't been perfect. You're right, and I know that. And I know I should have expected you to cheat or at least me, but I didn't think either of us would actually do it. If you want to get a divorce I am fine. But we have to get away from the press as much as possible and tell the children. "
I looked down at the ground until I realized, "Wait! we can't get divorced. The contract." I felt my heart shatter in a little tiny pieces. Because of that contract for the show, we were guaranteed partnership to own and produce my show and yadda yadda, but if we were to divorce, all rights might be turned to another producer and the show might not be as good. "Listen Rodg, we can separate but I want you to understand that I love Harvey, and we are only married for the sake of our show. We are on our ninth year and I want this show to last as long as I wish. Can you handle that?"
With that Rodg nodded, shook my hand and left the apartment.
I turned back at Harvey.
"Did this just really happen, are we going to really be together, like a public image?"
"You bet your life we're going to be," I said and gave him a kiss.
