On The Air

Chapter 27

I was driving that long and winding road until I ended up at my daughter's rehabilitation center. So I figured the best thing to do was see her.
"Hi mom!"
"Hi sweetie! Ahh look at you, you look a lot healthier."
"I feel healthier mom..I'm so sorry I had to put you and dad through this."
"Oh no sweetie, please don't blame yourself because that only makes you feel worse about yourself which'll lead to the problems you've been having."

"Alright, well how've you been mother my dear?"

"Mm okay.. Harvey and I are going through a rough patch. He's too in his head I don't know what to do with him. So we're giving each other a break until we both come to terms and get back together. But I don't know anyone to stay with."

Carrie gave a long pause to think.

"Why don't you stay with Tommy Smothers, I'm sure he wouldn't mind. He's so caring and I know he'll bring you out of your funk in no time with that personality of his."

I thought about it. "That does sound good, thank you!" I said giving Carrie a kiss on her forehead. We kept talking for a long time until it was time for all the visitors to leave the facilitation.

   As twilight was approaching, I made my way to Tommy's house. I stood outside his door wondering if living with another man would be the best bet. Well I have to do what I have to do because I will either be stuck living in my car for who knows how long. And I guess I could try to buy my own place but I have to look around and at this point I'm tired. So after much hesitation to ring the doorbell, I finally did it . I suddenly heard shuffling and his presence was made clear when he opened the door .

"Carol!" He went a little wide eyed. Yeah if one of my friends unexpectedly showed up at my door with a suitcase I would be shocked too.

"Hi Tommy, I'm sorry to just barge at your house but-"

"No not at all, come on in," he cut me off.
"Let me take that suitcase for you. So what's up?"

"Well...Harvey needs some space, well really we both do. But I just needed a place to stay, I hope that's okay."

"Yeah, that's no problem, stay as long as you want ."

He went to show my room, and get dinner for me. I adored his home. It wasn't like a mansion but it was really huge and spacious. After dinner I went to sit outside to have a smoke, (which I haven't done in a long while, but I'm so stressed who cares). Tommy soon came along to sit next to me.

  He asked about what was said between the two of us, and how I was holding up. It was really caring. At moments I felt like crying but I just held it in and he brought me into his chest and he rubbed my back. I felt so calm that I suddenly felt like I was drifting on a river to a nice deep sleep.
