Carol's POV
It was our final taping for that week and I was ready to go home. Since Harvey left it's kind of been a strain on relationship. We don't argue or anything it's just hard to see each other with our different schedules. I figured I would go to his apartment and surprise him. I knocked on the door but no one answered. I was puzzled because he would be home by now,it's almost 9:00. So the only thing I could think of doing was staying in the guest bedroom at my old house. (If you were wondering the past few weeks I did stay at Harvey's only to sleep because we rarely see each other, and he hasn't given me a key yet).
As soon as I got home I sat in bed looking through my autograph book, reminiscing the early years until I receive a phone call.
"Hello?"
"Hello, sweetheart?"
I could tell it was Harvey but something didn't sound right.
"It's so great to hear your voice right now," he said.
"Harv, what's wrong? You don't sound like yourself."
Harvey's POV
I couldn't bear to tell her what happened it's so humiliating but I had to talk to someone. I was sitting all alone in the dark studio on the verge of tears.
"Carol,.. I...The show's cancelled."
"WHAT?!" She shrieked in my ear.
"Yes, I just want you to know I'm so sorry for leaving you and I feel like such a failure and I feel as though I failed you."
"Harvey, stop talking nonsense. I'm sure you can make it as long as you believe in yourself and don't feel bad for leaving the show. You had every right to. I'm always here to support you. To be honest the show hasn't been the same since you left...and...I was thinking about leaving."
I was flabbergasted, she had spent so many years building this show and now she's quitting because of me ??
"Carol, I can't let you do that."
"Listen Harvey, it's not only because you left, but I feel the same gags are being done, I'm tired of finding second banana replacements since Dick Van Dyke left, and also this is my way to break free from my husband. I want to be classy and just leave before we're too stale that no one would want to remember our show. I just need a break."
"I understand sweetheart. If I were there I'd give you a biggggg kiss to show you how much I think you're brave to go through with this."
"Aw thank you sweetheart, well I'm going to go to sleep, goodnight Harvey and please take care of yourself inside and out."
"I will darling, goodnight."
