The following weeks went smoothly. I remained at Harvey's place in order for me to recollect myself. Some days we would sit out on the balcony and just sit peacefully to think, or we would take walks along the beach hand in hand, and Harvey occasionally kissing my hand. It did help me think. Also the support of the fans has been outstanding. They tell me, "Good luck to you Carol," and many more like that one and others writing about how much the show has helped them through a rough time.
One morning the telephone rang and I was still in bed with Harvey's arm around me. I was in my little heavenly zone when I figured I'd better stop being lazy and answer the phone. (Ugh. What a struggle; it's all the way over there...and I'm over here).
"Hello?" I answered.
"Carol, it's me Rodger."
"Oh," this is not going to make my morning go any smoother. "Hello, what is it?"
"I figured I'd call to say I need to see you for the contract breaking proceedings. Also I would like to speak to you about.. you know our problems."
"Rodg, you already know our probl-"
"No, Carol I really don't. And I think the least you can do is try to at least here me out on this, and also what we plan to do for the future."
I looked back in the bedroom where my honey lay. He was sound asleep and I didn't want to be forced out of my happy bubble so soon but it has to happen sometime.
"Okay Rodger, you have exactly ten minutes to explain yourself."
"Carol, I don't know what went wrong with us. I think the business got the better of both of us and I still believe we can work this out. I know there's Harvey now, which god knows why or how that matter you too hooked up, but I can change. I'm also worried for our children. Carrie is having problems that I can't help her with and her mother's not around to help her. I think you need to get it together Carol! Your children need you too, yes they're growing up, but you can't just be in lala land and forget what belongs to us.... I don't really know what else to say but this relationship needs to stop. I think my ten minutes is up."
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I felt like this was an ultimatum. Give up Harvey, or you'll never see your children again?! What kind of crap is this.
"Rodger.. Yes we had problems, yes we can work them out. But I don't want to. I'm obviously tired of you being dead weight, and I'm tired of us arguing and me being nice enough to forgive you. I'm sorry that I fell in love with someone else. But I have a right to be happy! I tried to give you the best years of your life! I even divorced someone else to be with you, and this is how I'm treated?!"
"Carol-"
"DON'T INTERRUPT ME!... I have to be there for my children I know, but you can't just say I need to end my relationship with Harvey because of it. WHO DOES THAT!.." I tried my best to recollect myself before I went screaming like a tea kettle. "Rodg, I think it would be best if we just got divorced. Then I'm free to see my children and I would be happy. It's a great way to end our twelve year marriage. The show is over and we're both free. Find someone else that will make you happy. I found mine. I honestly can say he's the love of my life and I don't know how we didn't see it until about year ago. Like I said during the finale, it's time to move on to other things, because change is growth."
With that I heard a wither, and the phone clicked silent. I'm sure I hurt his feelings, but I didn't care anymore. When I placed the phone down, I quickly turned around and jumped seeing Harvey just leaning by the doorway. "Did you hear all that?" I asked.
"Well I heard the last part," he walked towards me. "And I know we usually say I love you, but.. I never heard you say anything deeply about your feelings for me."
I felt myself blushing and looked down. Suddenly Harvey wrapped his arms around my waist an started kissing my neck and whispered, "You're the love of my life too." I smiled and we shared a passionate kiss. Then, keeping our lips in sync, he gently pushed me back into the bedroom, both of us discarding our clothing.
