"Astrid it's time to get up!" Moms voice shouted from the hall, causing me to growl in annoyance. I was turning 13 in a few days and my mom decided it'd be a great idea to go back to Alaska for my party and to visit our family. Don't get me wrong I love Alaska, winters my favorite season despite not being able to wear shorts even though it's not that cold.
But Astoria is where I was born and it's my home. My horse is here, my friends are here, my odd but fun cousin was here. I have everything I need. Except the rest of my family that is.I covered my head with a pillow to block my mom out and for a moment I thought I was safe, and then my little eight-year-old brother jumped on my bed and started shaking me, courtesy of mom.
"Wakey Wakey Assy!!!!!" He screamed, jumping up and down on my bed.
"Fine fine I'm awake." I grumbled softly, smirking and smacking him upside the head with my pillow. I fell down on his back on my bed and blinked for a moment quietly, allowing me to get up and head to the bathroom. I turned on the shower right after Darius left my room and jumped in to wash my dirty blonde hair.Despite both my parents being shifters, I ended up with my aunts genes and turned out to be a witch. We train whenever she's free, sure my dad might've been the oldest child but auntie Mav still got to be queen, so shes pretty busy half the time. I like creating my own spells whenever I have time and it helps do everything faster.
I quickly finished up my shower, changed into a hoodie and jeans and went to the dining room for breakfast."Good morning sweetie." Mom said, smiling and kissing my forehead.
"Don't 'sweetie' me woman, how dare you send my little D in to torture me." I glared at her playfully and she rolled her eyes.
"We're leaving after breakfast so I suggest you eat quickly."
I sighed heavily, still not wanting to leave, but obliged and sat in my chair in between Darius and dad, who felt the need to ruffle my already knotted hair.
We've been home for about five years now, and I didn't want to move to Alaska so soon. The chances of auntie visiting often enough to make a difference in my training was slim, which means I'd be on my own unless I somehow managed to find another witch to train me.I ate without arguing and went up to my room to pack a bag.
I shoved my favorite hoodie in the bag, along with a few books, Aster and I grabbed the locket my grandmother gave me when I got back. She said it used to be hers and it had a picture of her with grandpa Hawke, Mav and Asher but now it's got a picture of mom, dad, Darius and I. It was probably my most prized possession.
I grabbed a few other thing I figured I'd miss if I left behind before I was finally ready and went to the air strip where my family was waiting."Practice these spells until I visit again." Auntie Mav said seriously, handing me a book with a smile before leaning down to whisper in my ear.
"These are my personal spells, in case you find your mate and need ways to punish him for being a doofus."
I giggled and hugged her, I'd miss her most of all.
"Bye auntie."
"Bye ya little drool monster." She teased.
"Oh c'mon! I was three!"
I sighed heavily at my hopeless aunt before climbing into the plane, followed by my brother and finally my parents.
"Do we even have anywhere to stay?" I asked as the door shut firmly.
"Yes Astrid, for the first night while I stuff gets moved we'll be sleeping with my old pack and by the second night they should have all of our stuff set up in our new house."
"Yay...." I mumbled sarcastically, deciding to take a nap to pass the time.~~~~
I woke up hours later to find that we'd landed and I was the only one still on the plane. Panicked, I scrambled to unbuckle my seat belt and bolt from the plane only to crash into my mom while she stood at the base of the staircase, speaking with my grandma, her mother. I pulled my hood up awkwardly and stepped closer to Darius protectively. Yeah I've met grandma and grandpa and even the whole pack in Alaska, but I also know that we aren't as safe here. Back in Astoria we had guards to make sure we don't get hurt, but here all we have is ourselves and eachother.
"Hi grandma!" Darius shouted happily, bounding over to her and leaving me awkwardly standing in my place.
"Hi there baby bean, are you ready to go to the pack?" Grandma asked him with a grin of her own.
"Yeah!"
I sighed softly, this was going to be a long day.We walked to the pack territory, Darius telling grandma all about what's been happening since Christmas, and me walking silently behind everyone.
The leaves in the trees rustled softly and I paused, staring at it for a moment before I got tackled to the ground by something big and winged. I squirmed and panicked, vaguely hearing the adults laughing as I struggled to not die.
I finally got away to find a boy about my age with black hair one Amber eye, one green eye and two large, black, feathered wings, squatting on the ground with a grin."Astrid, this is Damian. I'm friends with his parents." Grandma introduced with a grin.
"Usually I'm all for pranks but that was just mean...." I mumbled, studying his wings.
The boys, Damian's, smile faded and he looked over at Darius, earning himself a low growl from me. I might be a girl, and I might be a witch, but I'm still part wolf and I'm very protective of my little brother."Wanna play tag?" Darius asked Damian excitedly.
"Sure." Damian replied, standing and grinning.
"I'm gonna getchya!" And they took off, Damian trying to catch up to Darius but failing, thanks to my magic.
It was amusing to say the least, watching Damian stumble, thanks to my 'two left feet' spell, after Darius while he ran in a large circle around Damian.
For some reason I had a feeling Damian and I could get along, especially if he kept playing with my brother as if they were the same age.
