Damian grinned and stepped towards the young woman before pulling her into a friendly hug. I tried to ignore the feeling of jealousy that buried itself in my heart and occupied myself with studying the newcomer. She had pitch black, waist length hair and strange, red eyes. She wore what looked like an assassins outfit, a bow and quiver of arrows slung over her shoulder. Something in my gut told me she was something going to be important in our mission.

"Um... who are you?" I asked awkwardly, giving Damian's back a subtle glare.
He pulled away with a cheeky grin and had the audacity to walk back to me only to pull me closer to the stranger.
"Astrid, this is my oldest friend, Skye. Skye this is my best friend, Astrid. Skye here is a guardian and well sometimes a pain in the rear." Damian explained, earning himself a whack to the head from Skye.

"Only when you are Damian." She shrugged, as if she hasn't done anything.
"Rude." He whined.
"Sorry to interrupt your little.... Disagreement here, but what's a guardian?" I'm going to be frank here, I'm completely, utterly lost.
"A guardian Angel, someone who died and now they roam the earth or earths, as some would put it, finding and protecting their liege." Slye explained nicely, patting Damian on the head while he failed to shove her hand away.
"And you know eachother... how?"
"It's somewhat a complicated story. Anyway, how about we go back to Tsuki's place and I can find out what y'all were talking about."

She grabbed Damians and my hands in each of hers and led the way back to Tsuki's, ignoring the questions I threw at her.

"Tsuki do you have enough for one more person?" I asked as soon as I walked in, going over to get myself a plate of something that looked like chicken, but I knew it would taste different.
"Yeah, why?" She raised an eyebrow with as she asked, being answered as Damian walked in with Skye beside him.

"Hey Tsuki! Long time no see, how's life with this one." She asked, making herself a plate to eat and making herself at home at the table.
"Oh, the usual. We all know how psychotic he can be, and with this one," Tsuki jerked her thumb in my direction.
"It's like Suicide Squad, but just the two of them."

"Wow, you have a lot of faith in us don't you?" I say sarcastically, sitting at the table.
"I have zero faith in this one," she answered, ruffling Damian's hair.
"He looks like an overgrown puppy!"
"Hey!" Damian protested with a cute little pout.

Wait... cute? No, he's not cute, just mildly handsome with his fluffy hair and curiosity filled eyes.... Snap out of it Astrid!

"She's not wrong." I agreed, giving Tsuki a high five.
"Y'all are so mean." He protested, getting himself a plate of food.
"So Skye, tell us about yourself. Where you'd grow up?" I suggested, biting back a moan at how good the food was, it tasted pizza, but better.

Skye choked on her food a little and looked down at it as she said, "I... don't really remember anything from my childhood...."
"Oh, sorry." I mumbled with a frown.
"Why don't we just come up with a plan to complete the mission at hand?"

Damian nodded and stuffed more food in his mouth.
"So what do we got so far?"
"Well," I started. "I figured out when we met Skye that she has something that we can use to our advantage, plus I have my sword which is item number 2. We need one more item before we can actually go for the king and I'm not sure where it is or how we'll find it."
"What about we split up?" Tsuki suggested.
"I'll keep an eye out for anything in Starstreak with Skye and Damian searches the ruins with you Astrid and if we find anything we meet back here in say.... Six days, that's including travel time?"

"Works for me." Skye piped up with a grin, shoving another piece of chicken in her mouth.
"Sounds good, we'll leave in the morning." I finished off my dinner and helped Tsuki wash the dishes while Damian and Skye talked to me more about guardians.

Damian and I got up extra early, made ourselves some breakfast, and left, Damian carrying me because I kept complaining about being exhausted.
He walked or flew, I'm not really sure 'cause I fell asleep within seconds, who knew abs were amazing pillows? Anyway, I woke up just as a huge gust of wind blew in my face and I found us already at the ruins.

"How long was I asleep...?" I asked, allowing Damian to put me on my feet.
"A few hours, once I realized you were out like a light I decided it would be faster to fly here." He replied with a shrug, head to the edge of the lake.
"So what are we looking for again?"
"Anything out of the ordinary. I'll know it when I see it."

We split up from there, searching about one-third of the area until the sun went down and we couldn't see three feet in front of our faces.
"We'll start again in the morning, I have no idea how much longer we have before we're supposed to fight the king." I mumbled, lying on the bed.
"It'll be fine Astrid, we got this." Damian encouraged, giving me a hug. I allowed myself to lean into it, soaking up his scent.
"What if I can't do it...? What if I lose...?"
"Astrid you should know by now, you're not alone. I will be by your side no matter what happens, whether we win or lose. Just promise me something alright?"

I stayed quiet for a moment, contemplating, before I nodded softly against his warm chest.
"Never lose hope. No matter how hopeless, or hard or maybe even impossible it seems. Never lose hope." He kissed the top of my head lightly and stroked my back.
"Ok D, I promise..." I mumbled before slowly drifting off to sleep, only to fall into a dream where Mahira sat in her signature clearing, waiting for me.
