We spent the next week planning the route to the the throne room, where the king will most likely be. Damian and I started sharing a bed, seeing as how we both sleep better that way and not for any other reason, at all, We've all become closer as a family. When we're not planning and training we're messing around like idiots, having family nights, and sometimes even karaoke nights. I realized I was closer with these three people than my own biological family, and that means something when I'm pretty close to them.
I surprised myself with how close I've gotten to Damian, and I know dad wouldn't like it. Tsuki has caught us on countless occasions snuggling on the bed or couch, grinned, smirked or squealed and then slowly backed out of the room.
Each day I find myself getting more and more attached to this crazy family and if I'm being honest I can't wait for the last person to join, maybe they'll join us in the prank war we've got going on.
I sat on the couch with a spell book I found, wearing my 'I wanna take a nap' pajamas, when Damian came over and snatched it from my hand.
"Let's go." He said, smiling.
"Where...?" I questioned warily.
"You're always training or reading about this stuff," he shook my book, as if it was proof to my crime.
"Let's go out tonight, me and you."
"I'm not sure..."
"C'mon what's the worst that could happen Hm? Maybe we'll find the last person while we're out?"
I sighed heavily at his argument, but nodded and stood.
"Fine, we'll go out tonight. I'll go get ready." I snatched my book back and trotted down the hall.
"It's a date then!" He called from his spot in the living room.
I shut my bedroom door behind me and went to rifle through my clothing, knowing Tsuki put something in here that I could use for a date.
I pulled on a white fleece mid thigh length dress with long sleeves, curled my hair and slipped my feet into knee-high brown high heeled boots. Satisfied with my look, I walked into the living room where Damian paced anxiously in a nice tshirt and jeans, probably the best in his closet.
"Let's go." Damian looked up at the sound of my voice and gawked silently for a moment before nodding fervently and opening the door for me.
"Thanks." I mumbled awkwardly as I passed, not sure why he was acting so weird.
"I have a dinner reservation for us and then a couple surprises." He grinned adorably and took my hand as we walked down the path.
"You didn't have to do that, I would've been fine with a picnic or something."
"It's not a problem, I promise." I smiled softly at him and allowed him to lead me to the restaurant.
I gaped as we stood outside of the best restaurant in Starstreak.
"I can't let you take me here to eat." I announced firmly.
"It's fine Astrid, just relax." He laughed as I continued to plant my feet into the ground.
"It's way to expensive here, let's just go somewhere else."
"Astrid it's fine, let's go." I sighed heavily and allowed him to bring me inside.
"Hi there do you have a reservation?" A young woman with her blonde hair in a tight updo and her pale green eyes glancing us over.
"Yes, it's for Damian." Damian replied, putting his arm around my waist.
"Alright, right this way please."
She grabbed a couple menus and led us to a small booth that could probably fit two more people comfortably in the corner by a window.
"I can't believe you brought me here." I mumbled awkwardly.
"Well believe it." I sighed heavily, staring at the table.
"Hey, it's fine." I looked up at him as he took my hands in his.
"I would do this every night if it would make you happy ok?"
"But why? We both know you don't have the money for that, and even if you did I'm sure there's other things you'd rather spend it on."
He smiled and shook his head.
"I'll explain later, for now let's focus on eating." He suggested, releasing my hands to pick up a menu.
"I'm starving."
I laughed and grabbed the other menu, scanning over the different sandwiches and salads.
"Hey there, I'm Ashley I'll be your waitress for tonight. Can I get y'all anything to drink?" A young woman with black hair and green eyes said beside us, looking from myself to Damian.
"I'll have a vanilla cream shake." I said with a smile.
"I'll have the same please." Damian agreed.
"Alright I'll bring it over soon." Ashley nodded and walked away to get our drinks.
"So any specific reason you brought me here?" I asked as we waited.
"Because I wanted to tell you something." He replied, tracing circles with his finger on the table.
"Alright, shoot."
"After dinner, patience Astrid." He grinned, thanking the waitress as she set our drinks down in front of us.
"So, I was thinking about the other person-" I stopped as I noticed the frown Damian gave me.
"What?"
"I was hoping we could be normal teenagers on a date tonight." He mumbled, sipping on his shake. I smiled softly and nodded.
"Alright, why don't you tell me what it is you're hiding hm?"
"On the way back home." He rolled his eyes.
"What are we supposed to talk about then...? We only really talk about the plan."
"How about what we plan to do afterwards? Do you think you'll be able to get back home?" Damian asked curiously, studying my reaction.
"I'm not sure, I miss my family, but then again being here feels natural. I'll miss this part of my family." I shrugged, trying not to think about what would happen if I couldn't go home.
"Well it's good to know you consider our crazy lot a family." He grinned and I laughed, completely at ease for the rest of dinner.
