Chapter 2 Flashback

We didn't know why we had to go, but one day Mom came home and told us to pack. We didn't argue, just packed and waited for new instructions. Apparently, Mom heard from Sam that I wasn't having the best time in middle school. Sam and I overheard her talking to Dad, saying something along the lines of "it's time." Well, if you asked me, I had no idea what was going on. Dad drove while Mom was sitting in the passenger seat. They didn't talk to us during the entire ride, which was how Sam and I fell asleep. We lost track of where we were heading and Mom never mentioned the destination.

They only talked to us when the car ride was over. Dad had driven up to a grand and luxurious looking mansion. The mansion was white and there was a stone path that led up to the front door. The security guards opened the gates as soon as they saw Dad's car, which got me questioning. Who's mansion does this belong to, and why hadn’t the security guards checked the people in the car before they opened the gates? I knew better than to ask my parents because they didn't like to be questioned, regardless of whom.

Mom turned to us before she got out of the car. "Ready?" She asked.

Sam and I looked at each other before nodding in sync; we didn't utter a word. After we got out of the car, we followed our parents into the mansion.  Sam and I hadn't bothered with our stuff. We left it in the car as we followed our parents into the house.

When we got to the living room and settled down, a maid came in and served us orange juice and snacks. "I know that you two might have a lot of questions right now, so your dad and I will try our best to explain all your unanswered questions," Mom started. "Your dad and I are very close to a royal family. My family has always been a close friend of theirs ever since I could remember. Before becoming a businessman, your dad was one of their guards."

"I was allowed to leave the royals only as a coverup," Dad interrupted. "There was a traitor in the royal family, the king's brother, Anthony. He was exiled from the palace and from the country. He has been recruiting and training people around the world to become assassins. He's trying to build his own army so that one day he can come back and take over the throne." Dad paused for a while, as if contemplating whether or not he should tell us everything. "I was told to leave the palace as soon as the royals found out that Anthony was raising an army. The King asked me to help him locate all the people that Anthony had recruited into his army and get rid of them if they refuse to leave Anthony's side. The King got everything together for me. He gave me a new ID and a new passport; he's also the man who's has been helping me set up the company and making contributions to make the company world wide, that was how I became the CEO of Sherriot Corp and the rich businessman that I am now."

"In an easier way of putting it, your dad is still working for the royal family. His business is international so that he can travel to track down the assassins," Mom explained briefly.

Sam and I nodded, but continued to remain silent. Mom gave us an encouraging nod, signaling that it was time to ask questions. I looked over at Sam before turning back to face my parents. "Do we own this place?" I asked.

"Yes, your dad bought this place when Sherriot started making money. This place is specially designed so that if anything happens, we can deal with the situation. The house is nicely stocked with all types of weapons and machinery. The guards around here, if you had noticed earlier, are either from the royal palace or recruited by your father. Every single person in this house is professionally trained so that they can ensure our safety and be our backups if we are in combat. Looks can fool you, so beware. Just so you both know, even the maids are trained."

"What about the people in Sherriot?" Sam asked.

"Sherriot started out with your dad and ten other royal guards. They have used what they learned to run and be a part of the company, but they are under your dad's command. They are in charge of training newcomers and completing missions."
