Chapter 5 Getting to Know Them

Sam woke up about half an hour ago, around 10:45. When he was eating his breakfast, he told me to wait for him in the car. Obediently, I went without any protest. I brought my iPod with me so that I wouldn't get bored while waiting for him. Shuffling through my list of songs, I randomly picked one and closed my eyes as I laid my head against the headrest. I started to picture how my life would change once I got back to high school and got the hang of the routines at my new school. I didn't know what I was worried about, seeing that no one will ever recognize me, but something was still bothering me. My eyelids began to feel heavy, but thankfully, the driver's door slammed shut as Sam got into the car and started the ignition.

"You look really tired," he commented.

"I'm not tired," I countered lamely, "I just can't imagine what the pressure would be like when I get back to school again." That last part was true. I just don't think that I could stand seeing some of those people who had trashed my life.

"Those kids are stressing you out, aren't they?" he asked, guessing my thoughts. "You always get tired when you're having unhappy and stressful thoughts."

Damn it, if only he didn't know me so well. "You always guess." He sent me a wink before driving out of the garage towards Aaron's place. I remained silent for the rest of the ride as I continued to listen to random songs on my iPod. Sam knew that I didn't feel like talking, so he kept quiet and turned on the radio. I was in my own little world, trying to think out all the possibilities that people might end up knowing who I am. Despite the fact that I have kept Sam from getting himself involved in my business, some people could see that there was something between the two of us (not the boyfriend-girlfriend relationship). People knew that Sam has a baby sister, but no one knew who she was. I remembered how some girls were saying that they wanted to befriend me because I was probably just as beautiful as Sam was handsome. Other girls said that they would befriend me so that I could help them get a date with Sam. I had to laugh at that because it was just ironic how they all ended up treating me like crap. Although Sam felt sorry about this, at the same time, he felt relieved that he wasn't dating any of these fake girls at school.

I was still lost in thought when Sam pulled up in front of, where I assumed was, Aaron's house. The lawn was nicely mowed. The house was a light beige with four pillars stationed at the front of the house was what I saw from where I was sitting in the car. The door of the house was white, standing in between the second and the third pillar. There were two windows on the first floor, one on each side of the door. The balcony on the second and third floor ran around the entire house. Their garage was to the left of the house. In order to get to the front door, you would have to walk up their driveway and then turn right. I took in the house and started guessing the price. It was a pretty house. It stated that Aaron's family's financial status should be pretty decent.

The moment I got out of the car, the music slammed me in the face. Despite the fact that I still had my headphones on, with the volume on high, I could still feel the music pounding from the house. Their nearest neighbors were some distant away, which probably explained why the music was turn up so loud at this time of day and the police car wasn't around. I turned off the music on my iPod and put it away. Sam had gotten out of the car and was already standing next to me.

"Nice house," I said nonchalantly.

He thought for a while before nodding, "Yup." Aaron lived in a wealthy neighborhood and since his parents were always traveling, they left the house to him. Although I haven't met them, Sam informed me that Aaron's parents were cool people. Sam said that they wanted to leave the house to Aaron since he's always throwing parties, so they often traveled. His parents didn't like the bustling city, so they bought another house on the outskirts of town, where they stayed whenever they came back from their travels.
